re: Why is boat storage so expensive??
Posted by speckledawg on 5/3/25 at 7:15 pm
I rent from a place that's only $60/mo and a half mile from my house, BUT it's not covered and has no power/water. That said, there's not a tree with in 200 yards, so my boat stays clean. I've got plenty room in the yard and built my fence with a yuge double gate, but to hell with these oak trees. My boat is a mess every morning when in bring it home overnight to fish.

Not the OP, but I'll help you a little. It's been too easy over here once the wind finally laid for a few days.

You're good for easily a week. I just cooked some last night from this past weekend and will do so again tomorrow night.

Costa says that the sunscreen most of us use fishing and outdoors is why their rubber wears away.
Sounds like BS to me. Fisherman (their target crowd) wearing sunscreen is ruining the sunglasses? That's a pathetic excuse for their shitty/cheap craftsmanship.
Gave up on them years ago and no regrets with my Bajios. Sunscreen a few times a week sure hasn't been a problem.

can't find replacement parts anywhere online either so i'm just SOL on 3 pairs i guess?
Similar response for me with a few issues over the years. "Repair" cost was typically just short of a replacement cost.
They used to be great with warranty work, but went to shite after being sold.

Dry them off well and put in a new ziploc and they'll be good for a week, easily. Do it all the time. Still much better than frozen.

Easily a week and will still taste much better than frozen.

Redfish used to be a trash fish also until the blackened redfish crazeStill one of my least favorite fish to eat, I will eat it day of or so on the shell, or fry it up with the trout, but once frozen I really dont care for it.
Really? I think they freeze much better than trout.

make fake crab meat
This is what I do with a majority of mine. Crab boil and cheesecloth. Either crumble and use like crab meat on steaks, use in a sauce or make "crab" cakes. It works great for all of them.

I just go around the ribs. Takes no time and way easier.

IDK why they think more people would order Bay Snapper than Sheepshead
Most people from out of town have no idea what a sheepshead is and doesn't sound like a fish. However, almost everyone has heard of a "snapper" and it's a commonly served restaurant fish. They don't know the difference between various real "snapper" and some made up term. Sheepshead are pretty ugly when an unsuspecting person googles them too...
Had heard the name for years, but hadn't seen it on a restaurant menu. Not surprised though.

uncommon ways
Yep. Hang it all in my closet and then just wash with basking soda before a hunting trip.

Aside from frying, Almondine and pan seared (over pasta with a cream sauce) are my go-to favorites. I don't freeze many trout these days, as they're definitely better fresh.

22yo is definitely not a "kid", but that's not the problem here. It's the psychopath that's been arrested 12 times, yes an actual dozen times, before this rage incident. He is a literal POS and should never be operating a boat again, especially with unknowing customers aboard. It's amazing he hasn't killed anyone to this point or boarded the wrong boat like that and been killed himself.

Bought a pair of Bajios last summer and love them. Tried going to cheap ones with plastic lenses after giving up on Costas, but got tired of scratched lenses.

Agree. They weren't out there to fish or scout. Just looking to start some trouble.
