This is what OP is missing. A team of kids in their 20s with a lot of experience and good coaching can overcome HS recruiting stars. Vandy had similar experience.

Sure, you can spring some upsets here and there but you aren't going to consistently beat more talented teams.

They’ve beat both Ohio State and Oregon. Both teams have great QBs and top 5 composite talent

Exactly. There were several 5* that Saban recruited who didn't pan out. If memory serves, Javier Arenas was a 2* and he was one of the better DB's to play for Bama since the turn of the century. Not to mention his contributions as a PR.

Wonder how those numbers compare to OSU? Indiana has faced at least comparable talent before and come out on top, albeit in a very close (and somewhat boring) game.

Alabama is not losing to Indiana lol come on now. Look up the QBs stats vs the better teams he played. He feasted off the scrubs.

I think they absolutely still matter, but the transfer star system is terrible so they aren't rating guys who transfer correctly

False. The blue chip ratio is in fact a thing. No team has won a national title since recruiting rankings have been a thing without 50% of their roster being 4 or 5 stars.

You can claim it doesn't mean anything... but it clearly does otherwise we'd have teams with bad recruiting rankings winning titles.

Winning @ Oregon is a great win

Beating Ohio State was a damn good win as well

Kicking the shite out almost everyone else is impressive, especially with all of the parity in CFB right now.

All of that combined with the fact Alabama hasn’t really impressed me this year.. and I think Indiana might make a big statement this week.

Indiana wins by 14+ imo

Meh, Indiana has already beaten an entire schedule of teams with much more talent per the 247 composite roster talent formula

Summer,
Always the voice of reason

BYU would be nothing without their “old guys”

Don’t know if you’re familiar with Jon Curtis HS in the New Orleans area

Same situation
Holding kids behind a year

Makes a huge difference

Indiana has a better coaching staff than most teams in the nation...but yea. Talent usually wins. 31-13 is my guess

That's because we play defense in the Big 10

Heck, maybe I'm wrong to believe in talent.

Indiana may be the team that changes everything. It will be interesting to see.

Stars do mean something, statistically at least.
I'll tell you guys one thing I noticed, Indiana tackles very well. When the defense makes contact with the ball carrier, he goes down. Not a lot if missed tackles or extra yardage given up by Indiana.
