I keep hearing the younger generation (the ones who gamble) talk about how cool it is.
The game isnt for us old heads anymore.

It is better than it ever was.

You are correct, I see a few people grumble (mostly Bama fans on here, but also the Ohio State and “power team” fans) about how there aren’t “great programs”
It’s more fun for everyone when everyone actually has a realistic shot
Kentucky being talked about for the SECCG? I think that’s awesome
Now, I do think the runaway train of NIL and yearly transfers needs to be reigned in (it would have to be everyone, can’t be just the SEC); but more parity is a healthy thing

A bit of post nut clarity?
The game is still the game. The athletes are better, the coaches are better, the game is cleaner. The game before 2001 was a simpler, more enjoyable product. But change happens. You keep up or you fall behind.
The Tennessee roster is a 40,000,000.00 plus team. The Vols were able to get back to a high level of competitiveness quickly because the game changed. We, as fans and the university adapted to the new reality quickly, quicker than most. The trick will be avoiding the letdown.
Bama is a bit behind the curb in the new way the game is played (roster management). They are 5-10 million away in NIL, they made a questionable hire for a coach, and don’t have the money or the vision/mindset to change. Saban should have stayed 2 more years and got them used to the money side of the new game but he didn’t.

I seriously doubt you are over the age of 20.
And there is no way in hell you've been watching college football for any length of time.

I think a little parity is good. The expanded playoff also helps. Teams peak at different times. I've seen some great 8 win teams that peaked too late and had to settle for a bowl game. Teams that improve throughout the season have a chance to win it all.

None of these are true. The game has been simplified to an alarming degree.

You need to give it up dude. I dont know why you target me, but modern college football is designed to spread out the talent and allow games to be dictated by refs and gambling.
We went from a 4 team playoff to this in what 12 years?
Saban said 24 teams arent capable of winning but I think thats probably false now. These kids are getting paid millions they are playing off emotions week by week.
Coaches are stupid as hell and calling plays out of madden. What the frick was our offense against Tennessee?
If whatever Grubb does is worth his salary then all of us deserve his salary.

Went from 15 years of barely making a bowl to averaging 9+ wins a season, beating our rivals regularly, being disappointed in an 8 win season.
That would be competitive in the SEC correct?

There is nothing to give up. You pretend to be an Alabama fan while constantly saying stupid shite that screams you aren't.
You claim to be an older person and someone who has watched college football for a long time, but you constantly say stupid shite that screams you aren't.
And right now the fact you think there are 24 teams that can win a national championship goes even further to prove how fricking stupid you are.
The simple fact you think things this year is somehow unique goes to highlight how much you have NOT watched college football, because this IS college football and it always has been.
You know what you are going to see in a 24 team playoff? A large amount of blowouts. We saw it last year with only 12.
You're just a poser, frick off.

There haven't been many blowouts this season.
Those days are over. Coaching is lazy, players are up and down week to week, refs are being paid to keep games close.
UGA, Bama, Tennessee, Kentucky, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Texas, could all beat eachother any given saturday in the playoffs. Texas already beat Ohio State. Miami barely squeezed by FSU. ND lost to BYU.
College football is the NFL now.

Days like yesterday will mean exactly jack shite with a 24 team playoff

It does matter. Look at the ratings and tell me it doesnt matter.
Oh wait yall still think this is about the product on the field now?
This isnt about the game of football anymore. Its about money.
33 billion dollars betted on college football last season.

Does that include the bamma fans pelting georgia players with trash last week?

Yes. Those fans willingly spent 1k to watch the game and the players made 100k to play
They all knew what they were signing up for.

You don’t believe the athletes are bigger, stronger, faster than they were in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s?
You don’t believe that coaches having to coach schemes and plug and play, teach schemes and systems to 1-3 and done guys is harder than just out talenting teams like they could before? You have to work with little depth, new faces, and constantly adapt like never before. The pressure is higher too?
And the game is no longer a scrum game, scheme and system overcome cheap shots, reviews fix many egregious calls, it’s no longer just about the helmet now.
Bama had a great run, they were able to game the system, stockpile guys and just put talent teams and ride the Saban process.

Whine the curb? I see. Not on the curb. lol

Alabama blew out Kentucky.
Again, keep telling me how new college football is to you.
The upsets have always been common. Like last night I think it was you who was making such a big deal about so many teams getting upset the same day. Meanwhile it's so common it that is happens almost every year and has a name - upset Saturday.
How the frick do you not know that if you've been a fan for a long time?
LSU won a national championship in 2007 with 2 losses going into the game. And they were ranked #2 because everyone else had so many losses. In the Upset Saturday that year, #1 LSU, #2 USC, #4 Florida and #5 WVU all lost. 4 of the top5.
In 2014, #2 Oregon, #3 Alabama, #4 Oklahoma, #6 Texas A&M and #8 UCLA all lost on the same day.
In 2024 #1 Alabama, #4 Tennessee, #9 Missiouri and #11 USC all lost on the same day.
Do you know why Michigan really quit scheduling FCS schools? Because they were ranked #5 and lost to FCS App St.
Now here you come pretending to be an older fan while thinking this is all new and a result of NIL.
You are a liar and a poser. There is no way you have been a fan for a long period of time. Why lie about it?
