I wouldn't expect many LSU fans have degrees from A&M, they are more likely from LSU.
I suspect the answers are in the range of 25% or lower and 80% or higher, respectively.

Daniel is worried the sad Aggie talking points are about to be blown up with actual facts.

Probably.
No reason to ever become an Aggie fan unless you graduated from Texas A&M.
They're the little brother in their state and have had very little success on the national stage.

I did a ranking of alum/t-shirt fan percentages about a week ago. I had A&M much higher than LSU. The more national brands are always going to draw more t-shirt fans, I agree with you there. The more irrelevant programs like Vanderbilt and Texas A&M draw less of the casual fans from around the country. In addition, we all know there are plenty of bandwagon fans who latch onto whoever wins titles. A&M obviously doesn't have many of those types. I had Bama as having the lowest percentage of alums who claim to be fans, mostly attributable to its success in football and lack of alternative sports entertainment in its area. To make a long story short, I agree with your point. Spot on!

Scott already made his move. It's why A&M extended Jimbo's contract and gave him a raise in August. It was over months ago.

When it comes to college sports, this isn't the compliment you think it is.
Oklahoma State fans make the same claim. That's because their programs can't attract people who do not have direct ties to them.
Meanwhile, programs like Ohio State, USC (at least when they're good), Alabama, Notre Dame, etc. all have "t-shirt fans" because their tradition of excellence on the field attract people to them.
Do you want to be Oklahoma State or Ohio State?

If lsu wants to outbid a 10 year $9 million per year contract, go for it.
Plenty of outstanding Coaches will work for less.

Eh . . probably not. Winning attracts T-shirt fans and that fades quickly once a program roles over. I am sure that if you talked to a merchandising company the sales of gear is incredibly variable based on the near-term media spotlight on a winning program.
My wife's high school grad uncle got all into the Longhorns back in the Vince Young/Colt McCoy stretch and bought all this gear and watches and hats. I asked him if he was still rooting for them a couple years ago and he just laughed and said he threw all that stuff away.
Texas went as far as rolling out co-op merchandising box stores all over Texas thinking their brand was permanent. Every single one is closed now.
The only exceptions seem to be the cultural institutions like Notre Dame that seem to represent Catholicism and win the hearts of Catholic School boys all over the country.
The other exceptions are just the regional small towns. East Texas is crammed full of A&M fans that never went to the school.
But no one really gives a crap about what USC did in the 1960s or even the 2000s.

There’s a lot here who are slow on the uptake. They dont realize that when A&M /Woodward hired Jimbo it was in October, not December when the national media was saying he woukd never go there.
Now, two months after Jimbo declined LSU the mantra is Jimbo to LSU.

I’m looking at class rankings and average star ranking. OU is ahead in both and will maintain that in 2022. 2023 class nobody is even close in either.

There is some truth to that but you are overstating it.
Like many others, when I was four I became a t-shirt fan of OU. My father went to OU games in the 50's but neither of my parents went to OU. We were an OU household and I was going to be an OU fan for life.
As it turns out, my 3 older siblings and I all went to OU for undergrad. It does make me feel like my tie to the university is stronger than it would have been but I was never going to waver in my support for OU no matter what school I went to.
That same story can be repeated tens of thousands of times over in every state.
There are bandwaggon fans. I remember having a group from Bakersfield come to our church camp in the '80s. Several were OU fans. I doubt many of them remained OU fans in the '90s. But that is hardly the case for most t-shirt fans, especially the ones who developed their loyalties at a really young age.
