You do realize they're a semi member of the ACC and fill their schedule with 5 ACC teams, correct? They were also always an independent and played USC,UM and Navy for YEARS.Bama doesn't have the luxury of starting up "Independent and Conference rivalries from scratch.

Bama would have no problem scheduling.

quote:

Sorry,it couldn't.No school could

There's about 6 programs that could.

quote:

Right! So Bama could play Southern Miss but it would still be one of the highest rated games of the year? LMAO! Your top 3 highest games involved LSU,AU and UGA.OF COURSE IT MATTERS who you play.

They could play Southern Miss and still do about as well in tv ratings as most games play that day. Alabama's throw-away games get better tv ratings than others' throw-away games.
When 5 of the top 10 most-viewed games involves Alabama, the common denominator is Alabama, of course it has to do with Bama.

They were when they joined.

They were already in the process of getting expelled from AAU when they joined the Big Ten.

quote:

No it's not.You only beat out Rutgers

Alabama beats out Maryland too. And there are about 4 other schools that have endowments of $1-2 billion. So Alabama's $1.4 billion would be on par with about half the conference.

quote:

knock yourself out SEC would roll along just fine.

No. No it wouldn't. The powers that be in the SEC would bend over backwards to keep Alabama.

Well, we could do what pansy arse Florida State and Miami, Fl. did and join a basketball conference or have some balls and join the Sun Belt.

I'd set fire to Willy B myself if we ever decided to go back to the ACC.

ETA: *disclaimer* I'll have a solid alibi in place here in NC.

So where would we go if the SEC collapsed?

Rather go independent again than go back there. And it's not because of Clemson as much as the politics that would no doubt be involved with the NC schools just like the first time that led to us telling the ACC to kiss our arse.

Eh it’s 2019 they all care about basketball now
And with their Network they’d be fine with us being a football name in conference

I’m not saying it would happen because it wouldn’t but that’s the point of the OP, but culturally we’d fit in more

And maybe that’s just me culturally. I’d fit in more with Clemson, NC state, UNC, Wake etc alums

Certainly not Big Ten Pac 12 or Big 12

So why exactly would a P5 team who plays 9 conference games go home and home with Bama?Sure you could play 2 neutral site games then ND and BYU and then what? Why do you think all those Independents joined conferences in the 90's? Why do you think ND is now playing 5 ACC games?

Do what? Little bit a difference between $1.4 billion and
$2 billion and that being on par wasnt your original statement

No. No it wouldn't

Yes,yes it would. The SEC did more than fine in the Bama pre Saban years.UT,UF. and LSU all won NCs

The SEC would work really hard to keep Alabama, but I doubt they would give them a disproportionate revenue deal. Every school has one vote, and nobody wants to have a Texas/Big12 situation. The precedent is terrible

They joined at the beginning of 2010 and were kicked out a year and half later.I don't think they were in the "process of getting kicked out"

Because you have to round out your 12-game regular season with OOC. If you've been paying attention, playing Group of 5 is no longer going to be feasible in the future. Saban has been banging that drum for about a year now.
The future of scheduling is scheduling P5 OOC, due to playoffs.

quote:

Like who?

Alabama, Texas, Ohio St., Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, ND.

quote:

And why dont they do it then?

The original question was who COULD go independent and be fine...these 6.

quote:

This is beyond laughable

Alabama vs. Group of 5 opponent
Alabama vs Arkansas State = 1.66 million viewers

P5 vs. P5 that it beats

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M = 1.596 million
Michigan vs. Nebraska = 1.449 million
Mississippi St. vs Kentucky = 1.21 million
Penn St. vs. Illinois = 1.1 million
USC vs. Arizona = 756k

The list goes on and on, but you get the picture
TV ratings

quote:

Do what? Little bit a difference between $1.4 billion and
$2 billion and that being on par wasnt your original statement

Not really. $1.4 billion is on par with many Big Ten schools. And if you pay attention, the fluctuations in endowments from year to year can be rather big, e.g., Alabama's endowment grew by $100 million from last year.

quote:

Yes,yes it would. The SEC did more than fine in the Bama pre Saban years.UT,UF. and LSU all won NCs

Alabama is synonymous with the SEC. Even in down years people watched Alabama. Each conference has their name programs, which has to have historical significance...like OSU, Michigan in the Big Ten...Oklahoma, Texas in the Big 12...Alabama in the SEC. People watch these teams even in their down years, much like ND.

quote:

They were. The ball started rolling as Nebraska was talking to the Big Ten.

And exactly what is the incentive to play Bama with a RETURN game vs a P5 cupcake?

Alabama, Texas, Ohio St., Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, ND.

BS NONE could do it and fill out their schedule and get the revenue they get now
