Nope, not being selected as the national championship by a major poll in the poll era is the issue. Also claiming the title in a year you weren't even eligible simply compounds that issue.

Auburn only has 15 10-win seasons in their existence. That is success for them. So much so they deemed 9 out of 15 of those seasons as national championships. If Alabama was as pathetic as that, they could claim 40.
