If the Gator doesn't toss the Tiger shoe, is Mullen still coaching at UF?

I think thare is a real possibility the answer is yes.

Florida would have gone into ATL with NCship hopes very much alive. They would have played a tough game against an opponent no one gave them a chance against. The OU blowout would have been tough, but it would've been argued that the disappointment of the SECCG loss and the early declares who wouldn't play cost them the game.

The shoe toss took any chance of getting any kind of glow from a tough Bama loss and the blowout against OU was not so easily pushed aside.

Mullen comes into 2020 with a longer leash knowing he was within a hair of beating Bama in 2020 and seemingly an inch away from building a title contender.

Honestly, maybe. If we don't crap our pants vs. A&M and LSU, we were going to the playoff. And if Mullen were to have made the playoff in 2020, he probably would have weathered last year, even though shouldn't have.

The shoe toss put LSU in position to win the game but that LSU team never should have been allowed to be in that position. It was missing starters all over the field & the QB was a true freshman making his first start. 54 players dressed out. LSU was a 23 point underdog to #6 ranked Florida in The Swamp. Mullen lost the GAME, LSU won the kick.

All true, but if he wins the game it's moot. 2009 Bama was a heavy favorite over Tennessee. Nobody cares that it was a close game. They won.

Like KT said, LSU should have lost by 30. The shoe toss was just icing on the cake.

Why is Florida playing OU in this scenario?

No.

That was an asterisk season to the point where even the players that didn’t quit on their team didn’t give a damn. Just look at the shoe tossed.

They seemd to really like him, right up to the point the wheels fell off.

I don't think I saw a more arrogant game plan in the history of collegiate sports. Kyle Pitts had nothing wrong with him and Mullen sat him to rest up for the SEC Championship Game.

Florida being that close to a playoff goes to show you that 2020 was a joke of a season

Fair question, but with two losses, do you get into the playoff?

Because we still lost to Bama and a 2 loss team that doesn’t win their conference will never make the 4 team CFP.

Yes

Amazing how one incident can start the downfall of a coach and a program at least in the short term.

Florida will be back.

The other thing is perception. If Mullen would have had a 5-7/6-6 record his first year and progressed to 7-5 and then 8-4 and then 11-2 last year, he would still be the coach.

Not really, no. He never really felt right and the fanbase was never excited about him.

We thought he'd go beyond the 10/11 win seasons. Nobody was worried he was going to fall on his face.

But he was always a "safe hire" kind of guy. High floor (so we thought) and a respectable ceiling. A guy who would win lose at most 3 games a year and hopefully get us into the CFP.

I never saw him as a NC winning kind of guy.

We lost the SEC-CG by 6 points, you're telling me we don't play with more motivation with a CFP invite on the table?

LSU probably still wins that game even without the shoe toss.

Zero chance. You were punting to that Trask offense with plenty of time left.

The one that got a total of 3 points out of its last 5 drives?
