Who should they have followed?
Who else in the SWC and Big 12 could have led a small group of big schools and a bunch of little ones through the mindfield of NCAA athletics over the past 40 years?

Missouri?
Nebraska?
Colorado?
Rice?
Houston?
Tech?
Baylor?
Okie State?
Kansas?

I would not ascribe to beneficence what could more accurately be explained by self-interest and exploitation. Texas didn’t shack up with these teams because they cared about them. They did it because they were the best teams UT+OU could cobble together to make a conference they would each dominate. As soon as the arrangement became a detriment to UT+OU’s success, they bailed on them for the SEC.

Frank Broyles was a real smart man to get us out of the all Texas conference when he did. Arkansas blew up the SWC boy
