re: If Nick Saban never goes to Alabama, do we have all the "death of college football" talk?

If they expand the playoff to 12 teams there will be a lot of teams in the playoffs every year. during previous CFB dynasties (eg Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Oklahoma) I stayed very interested and watched them play because I hated them and wanted to see them lose (not good sportsmanship but being honest).

Nick Saban and Alabama isn’t the problem. He would had the same success if he had stayed at LSU and not went to the NFL. Instead of Bama he could have been a Florida , Georgia , Texas, and few other places and the success would have been the same. His success hasn’t harmed college football. But NIL most definitely will.

This... It's ridiculous to think that he could only have success at bama like he has. I'd argue he would have had more at LSU imho. I'd argue some players from the 07 natty could contribute from some of his recruiting classes. He's just a great coach and has a good system. Once he leaves we will see bama go back to its former shell. In due time.

Nick Saban was the man who ultimately "blew up" the sport of college football and turned the game into what it is today.
Did he get the Transfer Portal and NIL going?

Because that is what is killing NCAA football right now.

College football is cyclical

Notre Dame
USC
Oklahoma
Miami
Nebraska
Florida State

All had runs (maybe not as long as Saban at Bama) where they were pretty much unbeatable.

That's about 25 years of coaching with a single national title and a whole lot of meh in there. The alabama program speaks for itself but let's not act like they were on cruise control.

Yeah, certainly! I agree with everything you said. I'm talking about things that we don't hear much about, though.

One example is how the media has transformed into a circus to promote bluebloods, because it's allegedly more profitable. I'm not sure that many people would consider it a big deal, but I think it's a huge marketing tool that creates disparity in college football. ESPN might as well change it's name to the Roll Tide Network, because you can't turn it on without hearing about Alabama. Alabama has been a blueblood for a long time, but the media hasn't always been like it is today, and Alabama wasn't winning every other national championship, either.

I'm just saying bama winning the title every year or every other year is boring.

Not unless he had gone to another SEC program and stayed for the same period of time.
