So, we shouldn’t keep history records nor scores & only focus on the # times everybody plays each other? That would take 10 years to do (playing the other schools 6X each with 3 H/A)…just at 16 teams.

Y1/6 - schools A-I
Y2/7 - schools J-O, A-C
Y3/8 - schools D-L
Y4/9 - schools M-O, A-F
Y5/10 - schools G-O

And to take it a step further, probably be yearly rotated and swapped based on previous year. So say you play 1-2 teams that had a .700 win percentage, 2-3teams above .500, say 3-4 below .500.

So you’re now throwing some rematches into “play whenever” just based on 1 game’s result. With that logic, it’s possible to play somebody 3-4X before the 2nd time.
But wait a min…..that sounds very close to perm. rivals thinking. ??

Not really sure how this fits into a discussion about if LSU and Bama should be permanent rivals instead of Bama and MSU, but go off queen.

LSU is Bama 3rd most played game ahead of Auburn

I guess my point is total times played an metric they is important?

Bama is MSU's third most played game and MSU is Bama's first most played game.

They are also only 90 miles apart, making them the closest two schools of any teams in the conference.

Number of times played isn't the only consideration, but it is a consideration along with other factors like "closest two schools in the SEC," which I view as far more important.

Bama is already guaranteed to have Auburn and Tennessee. For the sake of parity, their third school will be a non-Big Six. Probably Mississippi State. It won't be because Bama "cried to the commissioner".

This "rivalry" broke the collective psyche of the LSU fanbase. Heck, it would probably be better for both LSU and Auburn if our games with them weren't protected, just for the general mental well being of their fans.

PurpleSingularity
that Alabama cried to the commissioner about being required to carry Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU.
lol. imagine what LSU fans would do, the conspiracy theories of people out to get them, if they were the only team to not get a cupcake in their 3 permanent teams

Just have TX on there as the 3rd team as they can play OK, A&M and Bama.

Interesting choice of words. And you are correct that Bama has had to carry these programs for much of their existence.

LSU has played MSU more times than Bama has and we have played them more than anyone but Ole Miss. Bama only wants them in their rotation to make the schedule easy.

It's funny how LSU fans keep saying this while also ignoring the "closest two schools by distance" part. MSU being Bama's most-played SEC opponent and Bama being MSU's third most-played opponent is only part of the reason they should play each other each year, not the only reason.

You best believe Bama will get Vandy as one of their permanent opponents.

As an outsider, the OP is not wrong watching LSU vs Alabama has always been a prime time SEC matchup. If your Alabama what team is your third rival?

SEC fans get programmed and then follow the program off a cliff if need be. Who needs 3 permanent rivals on schedule? Why?

This world is made up entirely of sheep. They hear, they see, they follow.

Rankings (toughest to comparatively easiest):

LSU – Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M

– LSU historically faces a high number of ranked opponents across divisions. One source notes that since 2009, LSU has played a ranked East team in about 40% of those cross-division games—far more than Alabama or Auburn (~15%).
