If Saban coached LSU, would he have pulled JJ for Lee?

It's tough to see Saban really having a QB not well suited to a pro style offense on his roster period.

If you're hypothetically speaking about the staff being changed for this game, I'd imagine Lee would be their starter without question.

Where does this more talent come from? We had several sure fire first round picks on this team. I credit our coaching staff for a good game plan and developing talent, but our recruiting classes have been ranked higher and most of our players are projected to go higher in drafts.

I've wondered about this. I think the 'talent level' is way too close to call. Just seems to be the popular thing to say.

Ok, so what's your answer to the more NFL talent?

I don't think it's a huge difference in talent at all, but to say that LSU is more talented and we just won based of coaching is crazy.

I disagree with most everything in this thread. I think Alabama is by far the more talented team. Saban is a better coach with better assistants - add it all up and Alabama blows LSU out 21 nothing in the most dominating BCS game in teh BCS era.

Well, this statement is simply not true. By far? Come on man. LSU has some scary talent. Alabama is more talented, in my opinion. But your opinion is getting a little clouded here.

LSU lost for more reasons than just bad coaching. McCarron >>>>>>>>>>>> Jefferson as a QB. I've tried to tell you guys for the last month or so that Jefferson was terrible and that LSU was overly reliant on forcing turnovers and Honey Badger's punt returns to score points but you guys wouldn't listen. Coming into the game, I thought the only way LSU was going to score points was through turnovers and special teams. I just couldn't see LSU's offense driving the length of the field on this Alabama defense more than once or twice.

Besides the few fans who argued that "McCarron might be a little better, but Jefferson is better at doing what he is asked to do by his coaching staff," most people pretty much knew this.

But there were a few people. A few idiotic people, for sure.

I'm not sure who wins, but LSU was the least prepared team with the worst game plan ever. It was a shame to end such a great year like this.

Cosign. Alabama and LSU are really close in terms of talent. In fact, I think it mostly comes down to numbers. The top level talent on both teams is equal, I just think Alabama by virtue of numbers has MORE talent on the field(quantity).

I don't think Miles is a bad coach either. He outcoached Saban on Nov 5th. Continuing to let Cade Foster kick field goals and not going for touchdowns = Leaving JJ in during the NC game. Both horrible decisions. One cost us the game. The other I don't think would've made a difference in winning and losing, but at least would've been SOMETHING(probably an interception, but that's better than a slow, merciless death)

I thought the biggest advantages were in this order
QB
Dlineman
Olineman
Both linebackers played well. Both secondaries played well
LSU didn't have a hole to run through so that negated the running backs.

Linebackers were the biggest difference by far. Without our great linebackers, they are able to run the ball straight and with the options.

Their linebackers struggled and that's where you get into the success of our Tight Ends catching short passes and turning them into 14 yard gains. A tight end is a linebacker cover. Most of our WR completions came in the middle of their zone where a linebacker would normally be. This was also helped by our O line doing a tremendous job of pass protection and I think that was another big advantage.

Our lbs played well because they never saw an olineman. That was from our dlineman which I'm including up shaw there. I was just listing the biggest advantages I saw. Jmo

Alabama is a more fundamental team than LSU especially on offense. LSU depended on big plays and turnovers and Bama depended on execution and managing the game.

The LSU coaches thought if they ran the option that would be enough but when we shut that down it was like there was no plan B. So I think the Bama coaches prepared their players better and would have prepared the LSU players better than Miles did.

Not sure who is more talented.

I know LSU fans could taste another NC, but I have to say Coach Miles did a phenomenal job this year with the adversity his team faced. Yes, much of it was self-inflicted, but he still kept the ship sailing in the right direction against a very tough schedule.
The two coaches have very different styles and both work well for the given teams. Not to mention, beating an equally talented team twice is almost impossible.

LSU was an excellent team this year.
You have much to be proud of.
