quote:The respectful tone of your post is disarming - I appreciate it and I mean no disrespect to you or LSU. However, I disagree wtih you about Miles and I'd be very very dissapointed if he were ever hired at Alabama. I do follow LSU football closely - I live in New Olreans. I've seen LSU teams play some really horrific games under Miles and IMO the reason they lost was becuase of Miles inferior coaching Xs and Os. The Auburn game last year is an example - Miles and Chavis couldn't have schemed much worse. Alabama played a terrible second half against Auburn too but they weren't outschemed and outcoached. They got outplayed and that's a lot different than being outsmarted.
He did just fine at Oklahoma State, where he was recruiting against Oklahoma and Texas for players. Turned them into a winner. And he's not just sustained a winner here, but he's taken the program to a level in which it has never been. I'm not trying to call you out here, but you don't know about us. You don't know about our program. Much like I'm not going to talk about Alabama's program, simply because I don't follow Alabama football as closely. LSU will be fine. Les Miles is a good football coach. One game doesn't wreck a program. Congratulations on the win.

I disagree with most everything in this thread. I think Alabama is by far the more talented team. Saban is a better coach with better assistants - add it all up and Alabama blows LSU out 21 nothing in the most dominating BCS game in teh BCS era.

quote:I'm sorry you took my post as a sore winner because I'm not - I love college football - especially it's unique nuances. The point of my post is I don't think Les Miles is the reason for LSUs success. I think they've succeded in spite of Miles by recruiting the best talent in a talent rich state with no in serious in-state rival. If Miles were coaching in a state with two SEC teams I don't think he'd have a shot at the success he's had at LSU. That's just my opinion - for what it's worth - not an indictment of LSUs program. I think the kids will begin to question his leadership if he doesn't make some major changes and open up his mind to other points of view.
Ketchupmoney, I was in Nola for the game and the Bama fans were really great, we had some good natured ribbing and were still cool with each other after what happened. You are a sore winner and a definite stereotype of what Bama fans are usually classified as. This is my 3rd game watching games live with Bama and I've gotta say, I've had the best time around then than any other fan base. Every experience I've had we can have a good time so far. So saying that, see you in tiger stadium next year Bama!!!

quote:You should only talk about what you know. I know Mike Shula and his wife and daughters. My wife is a college choir director - she and Shulas wife worked together and I met Shula on many occassions. This isn't about his character - it's about his coaching. As a coach he was a coward and he lost the team, the administration, and the fans. No one cried over his firing.
You have obviously never met the man, nor have a clue about his character. He may have been ill-suited for the Alabama head coaching job, but a coward he is not.
Mike is a good person, husband, and father but he's a terrible football coach.

quote:He was a COWARD! He stood around on the sidelines second guessing himself everytime the team go into a tough situation. He was horrible - far and away the worst coach Alabama has had in the post Bryant era.
He was a professional football-lifer plugged into a bad situation in May of 2003. Not that ideal spot. He coached like a NFL coach too. That was his fall. Not to mention recruiting for the first time and inheriting a depleted roster. He in no way compares to Les Miles. And before you call me a Shula apologist, and accuse me of one of those fans wanting him back for a fifth season, I wanted him fired too. However, I know why he failed. He was set up for failure with what he brought to the table (and no, not in a conspiratorial way).

quote:I'm 61 and the only time in my life I ever saw Alabama give up was under Mike Shulas watch. He was a coward and his teams saw that. They privately questioned his decisions and leadership. He was a players coach like Miles but he didn't have the backbone to be the headcoach at Alabama. I don't think Miles is sharp enough be the best and the top recruits want to be the best. If they sense their coach isn't the best that's when the real trouble begins. Bobby Hebert was right to question Miles decisions. I think the kids know that.
I'm guessing you either didn't pay attention to the Shula era, or you are 15. Mike Shula didn't inherit the best of circumstances and his background wasn't the best for coaching in college.
The best season in LSU history

ended on a sour note. LSU was being touted as maybe the best college football team of all time and they get totally embarrassed in the BCSNCG.
I'm hearing fans here say it'll help the players focus and inspire them to do better next year. I have a hard time believing that. If I was a kid playing for LSU I'd be questioning the competence of my coaches. That happened at Alabama with Mike Shula and it 's the reason Alabama went into such a deep decline during his years there.
IMO Miles is going to have to win back his teams trust and confidence - and I don't think Miles is sharp enough to completely do that.

NOLA >>>> Southern California.

God bit your tongue! I would NEVER support Les Miles to Alabama under any circumstances! NEVER!!!!!!
Insight into Alabama football

I called my mother about 15 minutes before kickoff to share a "ROLL TIDE" with her over the phone. She's 86 years old and a resident in an Assisted Living Nursing Home in Gadsden Alabama. In the background I could hear a big commotion with lots of yelling and cheering. I asked my Mother what the noise was and she said it was a Pep Rally in the TV viewing room. Now keep in mind this is a nursing home filled with people mostly in their 80s and they were all gathered for a Pep Rally cheering and yelling for Alabama to win the BCSNCG. I smiled to myself picturing that scene after I hung up the phone walking back to my seat in the Superdome. I called my mother today and she answered the phone "Roll Tide". It's clear order has been restored and all is right in the universe.

Miles is the Honeybadger daddy. He stays as long as he wants.

Quality post.
I think LSU is a powerhouse program. These teams push one another 365 days a year and both are better for it.

quote:No, your'e wrong. If more money was being wagered on LSU the line would fall. The line is rising with more $ bet on Alabama. It's about dollars not bettors.
Wrong. Only 37% of the money is going on Bama. Public is playing LSU. Big money is playing Bama.
re: Which fanbase has the greater meltdown in the event of a loss?

LSU fans are off the reservation. They'll fall off a cliff if they lose.
re: Official NCG Prediction Thread: Who you got? Bama vs LSU

It's taken me all this time to make up my mind about this game. If LSU doesn't score a defensive/special teams TD I don't think they can win - and I don't think Alabama gives up a defensive/special teams TD.
Alabama 23
LSU 13
Alabama 23
LSU 13

You guys don't seem to understand how it works: The line moves when more money is bet on one side. They change the line to encourage bettors on the other side. In this case betting on Alabama is so heavy they're increasing the line to discourage bets on Alabama and encourage bets on LSU - but the line keeps going up because more of the betting public believes Alabama will win.
