If Auburn finishes 7-6, would that make them mediocre?

As opposed to just "bad" according to the rant? Pretty much every team we have played this year is in a Bowl game right now (only 2 teams on our schedule are not). The year was an obvious disappointment, but we got better during the year. I wouldn't call us terrible though. I would rate us a 5 out of 10 right now. And a 6 out of 10 if we beat Memphis. We lost 4 big games this year by less than 8 points each. A couple of catches instead of drops (there were countless) could have won at least one or two more games along the way.

This Auburn team is pretty mediocre...but agree they are not quite as bad as the record reflects and were very competitive in their losses.....

Preseason top 10... so yes. Very disappointing year for the Aubs. Gus needs a bowl win to get a little momentum going in to spring practice.

The Birmingham Bowl is a suitable prize for a hard working, competitive, sorta good sorta bad team.

I hate to even have to bring this up, but Jacksonville State (13-1) is ranked #1 in the FCS and playing for the Title in January.

I know...FCS and all, but they have beaten Ole Miss and a couple of other "bigger" teams in the past.

Not that I am proud to even have to justify their "strength".

This is the worst moral victory ever. You've really outdone yourself this time

Charleston Southern lost to Jacksonville State 58-38 in the Quarterfinals. So they are a Top 8 1AA team.

Alabama beat them 56-6

The counter to that question is that if you lose, does that make you really bad?

Losing to Memphis would mean that Auburn only beat two FBS teams with winning records.

At the end of the day, who cares how you or anyone labels this season? Call it whatever the hell you want.... it's still a huge disappointment.

We might win... and that might be something to build on, I don't know. Regardless of the outcome, it will be time to move on to 2016.

I wouldn't call it a moral victory at all. Auburn didn't conquer the world this year, but we played decent during a competitive schedule given how horrible/inept our quarterback play was. You have to admit, Auburn dropped some deadly passes this year, game after game after game, that left every opposing fan and team saying, "Damn. I'm glad they didn't make that play."

1) The NCAA should never have declared that 6-6 teams are bowl eligible. That is the definition of mediocre. This 5-7 stuff is inexcusable. Way too many toilet bowls in the mix.

2) Auburn's season shows how the media is always a bunch of sheep about pre-season. They all get some sexy pick in their heads, and none of them go against it.

3) Will Muschamp is fool's gold.

You can claim to be the only team to play 2 national champs in the same year. So you got that going for ya.

We made a bowl at 6-6 literally three years ago.

I think strength of schedule should be a factor for 6-6 teams...otherwise I agree. Too many bowls.

I would say mediocre is kind. Under-performing would be a much better assessment. IT is true we were competitive in losses, but it is also true we were lucky to pull out some of those wins.

I would still say this was a bad team if they finish at 7-6. There were reasons, but every team has a reason for failing to live up to expectations.

I just hope we have a qb for the bowl game not named JJ.
