I see the point that the north looks week right now but Tennesse will be back and Arkansas will not stay down more than a couple of seasons
Mizzou will ajust to SEC life and Kentucky will dominate basketball

all in all this is like Fox news (fair and Balanced)

also each division has charter members

Why would they break up into pods, more than likely they would just do away with cross divisional games and keep the current format
Because if you do that, you are effectively two conferences, not one. A pod system, wherein the two divisions for round robin play (required by NCAA rules in order to stage a conference championship) are not fixed, but rotate, would allow everyone in the conference to play every other school home and away over a reasonable time period. You could still probably protect UT-Bama and UGA-Auburn if that was desired, without screwing things up too much, but, otherwise, you need to rotate so that there is a sense of cohesion and familiarity.

Or in that posters case, just the last year makes up CFB history.

Well we have MNC's in 1919, 1927 and 1939... a heisman in 1957, plus bear bryant and the junction boys as history. Rich enough for you?

SEC WEST
A&M
Mizzou
Ark
LSU

SEC CENTRAL
Ole Miss
MSU
Bama
AUB

SEC NORTH
Vandy
Tennessee
Kentucky
Va Tech

SEC EAST
Florida
Georgia
S Carolina
N Carolina

just my .02 as I think Va Tech would strengthen the North a little over Mizzou.

East looks the strongest followed by the West and Central with the North still being the weakest, but a little less weak.

I was agreeing with you that the State poster was being shortsighted.

That's probably the best breakdown.

Your SEC North is too weak. It would be a contest between Va Tech and Tennessee every year for division champ.

The other conferences most years would be

Lsu v A&M (with Arky contending occasionally)

Florida v Georgia v USC

Bama v Auburn

North just seems like a weak competition compared to the others.

Rank the teams, therefore rank the divisions.

My take:

quote:

SECNORTH
Kentucky 15
Tennessee 5
Arkansas 8
Missouri 13

SECGULF
Texas AM 7
LSU 3
Ole Miss 10
MissSt 14

SECentral
Alabama 1
Auburn 6
Vanderbilt 16
South Carolina 9

SECEast
Florida 2
Georgia 4
North Carolina 12
Virginia Tech 11

Inverse scoring (Lower is better)

SEC North: 41
SEC Gulf: 34
SEC Central: 32
SEC East: 29

I know I will get flamed for having LSU so high and Tenn so low, but that's the way I predict it will play out longterm.

And my conclusion is North is pretty weak.

How's the 8 game schedule work w/ the pods?

Play the 3 other teams annually, then rotate pod v pod, and for the 8th game match up teams from other 2 pods based on previous season record or traditional rivalry?

This alignment also makes to most geographic sense which is important so that the average fan can keep up with who is in which pod. That is one of the issues that the ACC currently has. No one outside of the ACC knows who is in which division. Plus keep them geographically together help facilitate more fan travel in between the schools, which helps foster more interest in the games.

And for the question of why use pods instead of 2 permanent divisions, you use pods so that the teams play each other at least every 3 years. Even if you do away with cross divisional rivals, you still wouldn't play every team in the other division that often.

all the teams from your pod and then a rivalry game then rotate to play each pod
