Can you cite this anywhere? Any kind of link or website or anything?

Thanks. I'm not skeptical of you specifically titan, I just see people reference "the quota" all over the place but haven't seen any actual concrete proof of its details. I would be absolutely stunned if CBS wasn't able to air the OM or UT games.

Per wiki:

Contractually, CBS can choose to air a specific SEC team a maximum of 5 times (the conference championship game is not included in that number).

Dumb decision on CBS part. This means that CBS can't have Ole Miss/UGA at 3:30 the next week. That means LSU/Florida is likely in that spot.

It means CBS realizes that they'll get more eyeballs with the Mizzou/UGA game than they would with the Ole Miss/UGA game.

The TV contract is not made public, but the selection rules are known. As I stated above, there is a yearly quota, but that 15 year contract also allowed CBS to invoke a certain number of exceptions over the life of the deal, and they have only used one exception in all that time. So, I think you can add one to the usual quote of 5 for any team this year.

That’s a pretty wild decision. UGA Ole Miss is going to be a highly watched game.

What is the quota?

To the best of my recollection, it was 5 CBS games per team quota. UGA/SCAR, UGA/AUB and UGA/UF are 3. I think UGA/Ole Miss and UGA/TENN the 2nd last game of the season will have UGA. Week 11 conference schedule is pretty light with only 3 games on the schedule.

The reason is that UGA will meet its quota of CBS games if the Mizzou game is picked.

I don’t think any of us know the specifics of this rule.

I doubt this means that.

Or was it 5 3:30 selections? Or have we all made this myth up?

I don't know the rules but I'm assuming they get 5 "first choice games". So like the second tier game choices between vandy and Missouri wouldn't count towards the five. There's no way they are giving up the games vs ole miss and @Tenn

Well I looked up SEC CBS football history. The database I saw had all games from 1996 to 28 October 2023 (games that are announced already). Bama is #1 at 125 appearances which is 4.6 times per year as of today. The LSU/Bama game is not factored into those numbers and I suspect CBS will have the 2023 Iron Bowl as the their SEC regular season swan song. So add 2 more Bama games would bring Bama's total to 4.7.

LSU on the other hand is 4th most televised team behind UF and UGA. LSU at 81 times with UF at 110 and UGA at 92. LSU has been on CBS about 3 times per year on average. I think the SEC has tried to work with CBS and ESPN to ensure LSU gets as many of our home games at night since we have been playing night football before any other SEC program playing our first night game on 3 October 1931. To put that in historical context, that is 1 year before FDR was elected president.

In 2014 CBS had to pick the Egg Bowl instead of the Iron Bowl as CBS had already picked too many Alabama games, it’s a real thing

I’d like Ole Miss to have the 7:00 am time slot for Georgia. Just works better for our kids getting home safe. We all want these players safe on the roads.

Curious to see how this plays out (whether there is an exemption).

At one point, you could also buy a game.

Time will have changed by then so both games will end at night.

I mean it’s basically the de facto East and West Championship games.
