I'm not convinced his system won't work. It sure seemed to be working well at the end of last season, and for the most part during the aTm game.
The losses on defense hurt us more than we thought, dumbass penalties cost us as much as anything - woulda coulda shoulda, but cut out a half dozen particular penalties and we could be sitting at 4-0 or 3-1 at the worst.
Injury to Williams and Hatcher hurt. No fullback ready because we had to move Walker to RB due to Williams injury, then Walker got hurt.
Just a shitstorm on hard luck and dumbassery.
I think we will get righted soon though.

it takes longer to rebuild at arkansas because we dont' have the in state talent.
Ole miss and miss state even hve the luxury of going in their own backyard and finding a few SEC looking LB's. Arkansas has not produced ONE SEC level LB since we sent Matt Sholtz to LSU back in the early 2000's. and he sucked lol
our 2011 team had a JUCO player from i dont' know where (leon), a converted safety from louisiana (Jerico nelson) and a juco from arizona (highsmith) playing LB's
I would give my left nut for 2 legit SEC LB's
ellis is not bad. He's more than serviceable for what he's supposed to do. He's a middle linebacker not a Sam that is supposed to have the speed to match up with a WR in the slot.
The state just does not produce defensive players. We just got on a D line kick just the last 1-2 years.
sorry I forgot we produced the kid from EPC who had talent but flunked out 3 years ago

They commit too many penalties (to the point where I wonder if they are being coached to hold), have too many injuries and play too soft in the secondary.
They gave our receivers a free release most of the game and I have no idea why, that is the gameplan that Spav and Sumlin always exploit. Press man is the way to defend our offense.

one of our starting corners is the size of my 15 year old sister lol. the other is a true sophomore. we aren't at the "press man" stage yet lol

It's not a philosophy that's going to win titles but it's Arkansas so that's not really the goal anyways. I think the problem is playing low margin ball control football is always going to keep every game close whether that's good (playing tight with Bama last year) or bad (playing close with Toledo) the downside is it amplifies mistakes-- like I said it's not a great philosophy for programs like Florida (it was basically Muschamp's plan) but for less talent rich programs it should let you pull off an upset or two every year.

And we still beat LSU , with your ugly city Baton Rouge, loaded with talent has trouble with the terrible team from Arkansas. We have things in place to be competitive, money, facilities and rabid fans. We can afford what ever we need or want now. Fayetteville is a great place to live, many of our athletes stay here and work. Theirs over 300 Fortune 500 companies with offices in our area. We will be fine!

It's lack of talent, especially on defense.

Holding was ridiculous. Penalties killed you guys in the A&M game. I guess it's better than a bunch of sacks.

The holding penalties are not mistakes. They're being coached to hold on every down. Record the games and re-watch them for holds. Myles Garrett was being egregiously held even on the play where he caused the fumble.
The thought process is that the occasional holding call is better than taking sacks or having your RB tackled in the backfield. And it's not necessarily a bad strategy because the refs will allow for a certain amount of holding and won't blow every single one. A few holding penalties is better than losing 5, 10 yards again and again and again and having the QB wind up injured. So Arkansas is coached to hold until they get called, back off for a while, and then start holding again.

PA Bruin

And if memory serves his dad died like right after he got here and after that he just wanted to go home. Sucks for the kid and understandable. Not sure what happened to him after that though.
