Kansas is a bunch of New England transplant blowhards that had as much to do with inciting conflict as the bad asses from Mizzou.

Truth. New England abolitionists paid people who believed as they did to settle in kansas and keep it from becoming a slave state.

So naturally I now apply that to football and have to deal with the fact those cowards won't play anymore.

It wouldn't even be fair right now.

Where's my outlet?

You get it! We were absolutely ready for new rivals, but kansas is the team we just despise beyond reason. Our fans aren't quite sure what to do with that well of hatred, because we don't hate anyone in the SEC. Yet.

yall won't change your name to anything Confederate.

We stopped playing Dixie in the late 60s or early 70s, I think. And the Tigers was the name of our militia group that protected the University from both sides of the conflict.

I always thought of Missouri as Mid-Western state. In the same league as Michigan, Illinois, Kansas etc.

Missouri isn't football crazy like much of the south. St. Louis, for example, is a baseball town. Hockey is a big sport here, too.

Plus, southerns tend to be very group and image oriented, and Missourians tend to be more egalitarian and self-centered.

I'm from Missouri and really don't like the new conference. Just doesn't feel right to me. Missouri has more in common with Chicago and Detroit than Atlanta and New Orleans.

Just calling it like I see it.

I don't care who thinks we don't belong...Moot point

Missouri is smack dab in the middle of continental USA....with a variety of ethnic immigrants...including Little Dixie folks...but I would not call us a Southern state. On other hand, for expansion purposes, Missouri was a good choice, bordering several SEC states.

As far as Mizzou's first year...we were not great, but not worst by any means! We plan on getting better and looking forward to an enduring SEC experience.

What's happening in this thread?

By the way, Missouri is FAR more southern in culture than Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas.

Everyone knows that. Deal with it.

I disagree with a lot of your post, but welcome.

I for one like being in the SEC quite a lot, and being from Chicago, I don't think Missouri really has all that much more in common with northern Illinois/Wisconsin/Michigan than it does with the South. It's notably different than both. I think Arkansas and southern Iowa are the most similar states to us.

Well, you conveniently leave out East St. Louis, but I don't blame you, no Illini wants to claim that town, you can easily shuffle it off on Missouri.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome, BreakAway.

The states in red were states still banning interracial marriage in 1967.

This is the concentration of southern baptists in the US.

I can provide as many maps that lump Missouri with the South as you can that lumps us with the north.

That being said, Missouri isn't Southern or "Northern". It's a large mix. My lady friend from the Missisippi Delta region of Missouri (the boot heel) has a practically indecipherable southern accent and calls me a "damn Yankee" every day...and we're both born and raised in Missouri.
