Just stealing a decent B1G coach would be huge.
If Mizzou cans Pinkel I would go balls to the wall and nab Dantonio.

1. Mizzou needs to lock down the state better.
2. Mizzou needs to recruit Illinois much harder.
3. Hire better assistant coaches that implement a strict system of 3* and 4* player development.
The money will be there from the SEC network which is a non-factor. IF they do the above three they will compete.

Yeah. No one has ever given a kid $50 or paid for a plane ticket. It was a cesspool.

Meh.
First, Mizzou isn't going to hire Petrino. Second, Mizzou has a long way to go to catch up with some other SEC schools in the "selling one's soul to the devil" category.

If Huggybear was off-limits, where would that put Petrino? In a no-way-no-how-no-go zone, to be sure.

That sounds like a reasonable ceiling. You'd be in the top half of the conference in terms of talent, so being in the top half in terms of wins seems fair. Just depends on where the talent shows up from year-to-year. If the normal SEC recruiting grounds dry up for a couple of years, Missouri/Ohio/Illinois have a good run of talent and Mizzou can clean up, then you'd be able to compete for titles for those couple years.
I agree with you. I'm just not convinced MU can make inroads into Ohio. Maybe I'm wrong.

Y'all will be fine. It just might take a new coach and different recruiting strategy.

I would go state, then region
B1G big stadiums :
Michigan 110K
Penn State 107K (but on east side of B1G)
Ohio State 102K (but on east side of B1G)
Nebraska 87K (former Big 8 teams becomes B1G vs SEC game)
Wisconsin 80K - if Mizzou gets to 80K can pass these guys
Michigan State 75K - pass these guys first for atmosphere
Big 12 big stadiums :
Texas 100K - big stadium but wine and cheese corporate types
Oklahoma 82K
The real upside of being in the SEC is Mizzou football getting used to big and loud crowds so when they play the second tier B1G and Big 12 teams they will be well prepared for dealing with the smaller crowds.

Big 12 won't play us as of now.

OOC #2 vs B1G (the ones recruiting Chicago / Illinois)
Agree. And we play Indiana this year and there's talks of getting Illinois back on the schedule.

OOC #3 vs west coast for recruiting exposure
I see what you're saying and we'd be one of the closer SEC options for west coast kids. They could play SEC while only being half across the country instead of all the way. We've had next to no exposure out there though.

Personally, I'd still do it in the southeast. People can rip our class this year, but I'd be thrilled with the kids MU has landed out of Florida this year IF we had at the same time gotten the top 10 in state players.

Supposedly the big $$$ boosters are sitting in the wings holding their checkbooks waiting to see what happens this year. IF Pinkel slips and IF the AD makes a move, supposedly the checks are there. Obviously, if he improves this year, he's going no where.

Mizzou is never going to get close to 100k. Not with two NFL teams in the state unfortunately. The program just didnt grab its opportunity when the chance presented itself sadly.
I think the 80k threshold is a good place for Mizzou to sit that is sustainable over the next couple decades. Its going to take a new generation to lift the program higher like Mizz pointed out earlier.

For a long time, relations were strained between Columbia and East St. Louis. That has changed. We have moved into the janitor's closet for good. Got a 2014 commit, in on 2 commits for 2015 and already been working a WR that just started his freshman year there.

Not saying you have to get to 100K, just getting past the other B1G and Big 12 schools around you in the 50K - 70K range.

80K feels like the sweet spot. You are in the OU and NE range and no real need to go past it unless you can sell it out all the time. The main thing is once you get to 80K to sell it and make it loud. Spend some time with your brothers in the SC Columbia and use them as the guide to making 80K work to your advantage. At 80K you are Notre Dame range and scheduling them would flank the B1G schools around you trying to schedule them. Kill 2 birds with one stone.
Size matters but you do not have to be the absolute biggest if you can get the rep for having an dominating atmosphere.

As i'm sure everyone knows, there's already a three phase plan in motion to update and upgrade Faurot to around 80,000. First phase is already under construction and will get capacity up to 77,000.
I personally don't think Faurot ever gets stupid loud until the north endzone is enclosed. The way the stadium was originally designed it can get up to 100,000 pretty easily, but it's more of a Michigan Stadium design with a wide bowl than a tiered SEC type setup. This first phase puts the first upper deck on the stadium, but it's still going to be pretty far from the field since it won't be cantilevered over the lower stands to get the spectators right on the field.
Faurot can certainly be loud, but there are design flaws that won't make it one of the loudest/most intense unless it's just done with pure numbers.

Things are just not going to really pick up until Pinkel moves on. Which is fine with me. The next hire may be one of the most important things a Mizzou AD has had to do in a long long time.
Hope the right person is hired
