Nobody gave a shite when Hugh Freeze was coaching Liberty. Nobody wrote all these hit pieces on how Liberty just wanted to win and ignore all the shite Freeze was responsible for at Ole Miss. But now that he's the Auburn coach, everyone is losing their minds. Dude served his sentence, just like Bruce Pearl. Let them be. It's not like they were running a rape factory like Art Briles at Baylor.

They absolutely wrote those articles but more importantly it was what he did at Liberty that makes it worse

This past month Liberty lost to UCONN and New Mexico State, who beat a 59 point spread, but he can beat Saban

There are several coaches out there, some of whom are currently unemployed who have beat Saban, and ran their programs into the ground.

To me it's just a stupid hire for a football program making a habit of them. If they were going to hire Freeze, he should have been introduced the day after Harsin was shown out the door. There was no need for the trumped up dog and pony show with Kiffin.
We got rid of a slightly different version of Freeze with Malzahn, who I think is overall a better coach. You aren't going to outrecruit or beat the big boys by perpetually playing small-ball.
Freeze is an ongoing PR problem. They're already taking all kinds of steps to "make sure he's accountable", so why take the risk at all? He's not Urban Meyer level good. He's at best a guy who is going to get us back into the 7-8 win slap fight with Arky, the Miss schools and A&M. If we were trying to save money, there were less risky hires we could have had on the cheap. If we just wanted to re-live the glory days of the Gus Bus and load a football staff with every former Auburn player who wanted to coach, same.
It's a silly hire by a school increasingly known for them... and we'll most likely do it again in <5 years.

Effectively, it's the same "do more with less" offense that recruits the highest star dregs to try and "outscheme" defenses with a lot more talent.
We'll go back to seeing "athlete" on most of our offensive recruits, complete lack of consistency offensively, difficulty converting short yardage and red zone... other than a different pass/run ratio (which I feel certain Jimmy Rane will have "adjusted" with Hugh beforehand) it will be about the same.

He did some ticky tacky small beans bull shite but it exploded because he and Bjork were gigantic dumbarses. Further, no one cares about Liberty University nestled in Virginia which is a forgotten state for football. People are making an issue now because he got tagged while HC at an SEC school and now is returning as a HC at another SEC school in the same division and will have to go out and sell parents and kids how the Good Lord JESUS has saved him from his deep dark horny times

Its hilarious that you have people on here, not even auburn people sometimes, that are absolutely DYING to look over all the baggage. If you look at it and decide he deserves another chance, thats fine. I think its pretty fricked to try to downplay it as a nothingburger though.
