In the context that it was used, it absolutely does. Either that or there was a problem with the translation from yaw-yaw to English.

There was a bama commitment about 5 years ago or so who was projected to play a position in college that he had never played before. Recruiting services rated him a 5 star at that position.

Really? Don't think I've ever seen a 2* rating?

247sports founder and Rivals founder, Shannon Terry, isn’t pleased with his older brainchild’s antics:
quote:
Recruiting PSA 1 of 2: Yday a national recruiting service rated a prospect that doesn’t exist. Unfortunately, that service’s public data contributes to the 247 Composite. While appalling, I am not surprised. (continued ...)
quote:
Continued ... Ironically, it was same lil brother service that took shots at 247 on NSD. In order to insure that never occurs again neg impacting the Composite, 247 has a new protocol where prospects are no longer given a Composite rating w/o also having a 247Sports rating.

The OP was obviously trolling with this thread. I was trying to point out to Tuscaloosa that he didn't lie because he wasn't saying that Bama was the only school listed, but that the inclusion of Bama is what did it...thus the troll.

Well, who was it, and did he go on to be a good player?

The fictional player received a 3 star rating because he had offers from at least 3 different SEC schools, not because of his Bama offer alone.
Which means that any player could do the same and get at least a 3 star ranking.

The article simply proves what most fans of lesser schools knew. Recruiting sites are full of lazy arse people who simply take the word of a student and look for claimed offers from 2 or 3 well known schools to rate a player.

But it also means they’re flimsy ratings.
This is the real story here, and the point.

Have you ever looked at a G5 recruiting class?
UAB signed 7 of them last year and a handful more this year.

A couple of flaws in the statements.
They made sure to include multiple schools. Claiming a "Bama bump" when Georgia, who had the #1 class just LAST YEAR, is also listed is being very selective in the data you are wanting to look at. It should be noted that they list 3 schools (all big ones) from the SEC, but say "among others". That might have included Ohio State, Michigan, USC, etc.
Secondly, 247 composite cannot be "catfished" - that's like saying your voicemail can be catfished. It is just a data gathering and formula-applying system:
If you manage to get a rating on Rivals, or Scout - you'll end up there, even if 247 doesn't actually list you themselves. There's a list that 247 can be duped (their 247 only rankings), of which this fake player did not show up.
So far, the only thing this fake account proved is that Rivals doesn't fact check or evaluate... and that 247 composite does literally what it says it will do (automatically grab data and display it).
People claiming a Bama bump also loved pointing out that Alabama was not #1 on one recruiting service...
Rivals.

So not lying, just making an fact-less assumption.

That high school kid who did this is the best investigative reporter of the decade
Rivals "analysts" and et cetera are a bunch of punks. "Recruiting gurus" in Arkansas make me want to puke. Bunch of fakes, who also participated in trashing our Hog roster during the season in 2018 so they could sell clicks to their dipshit followers wanting "a purge" of the roster

Alone doesn't mean only. The Bama part is the trigger point of the entire troll and seems to have worked marvelously...
I'm saving this just for posterity.
One of the most idiotic statements I've ever seen on here.
