3* rating is essentially automatic for any athlete reporting more than one major D1 offer. Recruiting services have no way to verify if offers are legit, which is why they rely so heavily on camps.

It's not some grand conspiracy.

Also:

holds offers from Georgia, Florida, and Alabama among others

Your title is a flat out lie.

It's also very fitting and somewhat ironic that Rivals was the only recruiting service to not have Alabama as their #1 ranked class, and they had LSU a couple spots higher than any other service.

But it also means they’re flimsy ratings.

Relax.
He was rated on a reported offer. No one thinks Saban got catfished. Your hero is safe.

Because they reported offers from no fewer than 3 SEC schools when they "created" him.

Which does not equal:

I mean in reality yes it's a lie because the guy is made up. What the article was saying was, this fake person they created claimed to have an offer from bama, uga, etc. Not saying he Acutally, IRL, had them.

No, the lie is this part:

gets 3star rating based off Bama offer alone

The fictional player received a 3 star rating because he had offers from at least 3 different SEC schools, not because of his Bama offer alone.

Alone doesn't mean only. The Bama part is the trigger point of the entire troll and seems to have worked marvelously...

It's actually a fascinating topic that could have been a great topic of discussion. More disappointing that the thread has been devalued by a disengenious presentation than triggered by a troll. Meh.

The system is flawed and irrelvant. Basically the coaches do all the leg work like they have always done and these recruiting “experts” came along placing arbitrary stars in front of players names. Just funny how schools thump their chest on national signing day over something with really no basis

Not really. If any kid has offers from Saban, Smart, and Mullen then they are at minimum a three star talent. At that point, the kid may not have been evaluated by 247, Rivals, or ESPN, but he would have been evaluated by Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

The OP is only pointing out that three regular P5 schools wouldn't have triggered that ranking. But since Bama was included, that school "alone" has the clout to trigger the recruiting sites to think this guy might be something.

I'm sure he would have got the ranking if Bama wasn't mentioned, but you have to admit that the recruiting sites value Saban's ability to evaluate talent...probably more so than any other coach.

So yes, there is a great discussion to be had here.
