Bama-Vandy

That series is lopsided, but so are most all of the Bama series. And, you are right. I remember a lot of games where Vandy played Bama very well, even if the score doesn't reflect it.

Vandy actually is the 5th most successful team in the SEC vs. BAMA behind Auburn, UTk, LSU, and UGA in terms of total wins.

LSU and Vandy have both played UA 84 times and LSU only has 8 more wins over Bama than Vandy. Granted the bulk of the Vandy wins were in the 50s and before and LSU's in the last 40 years, but most of our parents or grandparents still remember Vandy when they were not quite as inept as they have been in the last 50 years. Hell. Auburn is still .500 against Vandy.

I enjoyed the series because I generally hate all things TN and enjoyed years when Bama would beat both.

1) Auburn-Florida no-brainer as they are natural rivals and had been playing annually for so long. Plenty of memorable games too.

Auburn was our oldest rival and we gave that rivalry up for conference expansion. I hope Jeremy got some favors for UF from the conference, but I just don't see schools doing that anymore.

This one is way too high. They were every-year rivals for what, 35 years? Hell, they've only played about 50 times total, and it was the 1970's before UT was even willing to play a game in Auburn.

They played 35 consecutive years. How old are you? Imagine an Auburn or Tennessee fan born in 1950. Their earliest memories would include games between these two teams...and would run every year until their mid-30s.

If a rival is solely based on how many times they have played then obviously Bama's main rival is Mississippi State...right (Bama has played them more than any other team)? Bama has played Vanderbilt the exact same number of times they have played Auburn...so they must be equivalent rivals, as well.

4) Arkansas-Tennessee, seems like this could've been a natural rivalry since they both have large fanbases in Memphis area. Some memorable games like 1998 and the 2001 (or was it 2002?) 5OT game

This one is odd because it was never a heated rivalry. It was a very friendly and fun game between fanbases. I never knew that there were Arkansas fans that hated Tennessee until tRant and I think most of those have just become bitter over the years because when it was happening in real life that series was very friendly. Arkansas was on an upwards trajectory back then and I think stewing on what could've been in contrast to the crash they've been on has rewritten history for some of their fans. However, I don't recall it ever being heated on our end or when I met Arkansas peeps on game day but apparently it was for some Arky fans.

TBH, my favorite IRL meetings with fans have been with Ark and LSU peeps. I miss having that game because it was such a great atmosphere between fans with some pretty incredible games.

I would add 2007 LSU-UK overtime game that UK won over #1 and eventual NC

I've heard this stated:

Auburn is the closest campus to Gainesville. Missouri's is the farthest. Makes sense that Florida plays Missouri every year and hardly ever plays Auburn.

I would put UT-Ole Miss ahead of Arkansas. UT and Ole Miss played nearly every year from 1944 through 1991.

Georgia- Mississippi

Would love to play in Athens every other year again.

Ole Miss is like a smaller version of UGA with very similar fan bases, so it’s great having them come to the grove as well. Always a fun party.

I miss the games against Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia Tech. They were all good, fun rivalries at one time and that's what makes college football so much fun. GT is the closest school to Auburn. Our first game was against Georgia, the second was against Georgia Tech and we played both from then on. To my Fil, who was at Auburn during the late 30s and war years, GT was the biggest rival.

watching the history of the SEC on the SEC Network, I was very surprised to learn how good Vanderbilt was from the 1910's to the 1950's. Beating them in the WW1 and WW2 eras was considered a big accomplishment.

Yep, both very old, traditional college towns. Seems like a great cultural match and produced lots of good games (remember Coach O's Rebs getting robbed in 06?)

Auburn and Florida still played annually until 2003 when the SEC switched to each school having only one permanent cross-division opponent. I can't remember why they did that

Texas vs Texas A&M on Thanksgiving is by far the one I miss the most.

Auburn vs Florida is a cool rivalry game.

Mizzou vs Kansas and Nebraska is another one that's a real detriment to miss out on now.
