2010 with Chris Relf @ QB was 9-4. Same record as Dak 2015.
In truth, the 2010 team had a pretty fair amount of NFL talent on the defensive side of the ball. No one knew that at the time. We heaped praise on Manny Diaz, but it was the talent that made Diaz successful and not the other way around.

8/11 starters were drafted. That D was stacked.
ETA: 7/11, thought Slay was on that team, but he wasn't.

I am concerned whenever we're replacing a long time QB. I think Fitzgerald and/or Staley should be ok. But, without a veteran play caller we have to get the running game back on track and improve the OL to be a good team this year.

The QB's are big. That is a huge start on the running game, and it wouldn't be surprising for the guy that wins the job to lead the team in rushing in 2016. The read-option already puts the QB at an advantage on runs. Being a big guy with a little foot speed makes it a real advantage.

Almost as much talent as this years team will have.??

Will we see the fighting Dan Merlins' take a pretty big step back this year? I say yes..
I don't know that MState will take a big step back, but if it does I think most of the issue will not be the QB position, but rather the O-line and RB positions.
Both of those position groups were quite bad for State last year, and while they will hopefully improve, there are a lot of nasty D-lines in the SEC west.

Nick Fitzgerald is going to go in dry on auburns secondary

People don't know who Fitzgerald is yet, but the truth is, he's a better passer than Dak and has slightly quicker feet. So potential is there for sure. It's all mental going forward, which is huge.

He's bigger, too
