How will Mississippi State adjust to life without Dak Prescott?

Take it from some fanbases that would know, it's hard to replace a super star. A guy that can and did transcend an offense. A guy that's responsible for not only leading the offense, but a guy that keeps defensive coordinators up at night with game prep. A guy responsible for a very large portion of the offense, both running and passing.
Auburn (post-Cam Newton)
Florida (post-Tim Tebow)
Texas A&M (post-Johnny Manziel)
Mississippi State (post-Dak Prescott)
The above teams (I'm assuming the same from Mississippi State) have all struggled to replace their star quarterbacks of back when, and all recruit better than Mississippi State.
Will we see the fighting Dan Merlins' take a pretty big step back this year? I say yes...

Mullen is really good at figuring out what his guys can do and adapting his scheme to that. My guess is he will do the same thing this year. He even did it during Prescott's career as Prescott got more comfortable passing.

It's extremely difficult to replace a dynamic multi-year starter. Dak is the best QB in MSU history and basically started all 4 years. There will be growing pains, period. This could be a rough year for State.

He was the full time starter for two years.

Mullen went 8-5 w/ Chris Relf as the starting QB. I'm optimistic.

Reminds me of Sesame Street's "Which one of these things don't belong?"

My B. But I know he got significant playing time in 2013. Enough that his 2013 season ranks top 10 in MSU history in every passing category. He basically started 3 years.

If State can run the ball I think they'll be fine. If not, then yea they'll have a rough year offensively. However, Mullen has won with some meh QBs there pre-Prescott.

3 out of 4 on that list were recruited/coached by Mullen. Throw in Alex Smith and I would say a Mullen coached team will be OK at the QB position.

Both Nick Fitzgerald and Elijah Staley have the potential to be great. Will they be at Dak's senior level right out of the gate? No, but it would be hard to argue Dan Mullen isn't one of the best in the country at developing QBs. So, I'm not really all that worried.

I think State will take a huge step backwards. UM will mop the floor with them and ole Danny Boy may finally start to feel the heat.

We were 9-4 and not 8-5. That was Mullen's second year. We finished 5th in the West and 15th in the nation.
The QB competition will be interesting. Most MSU fans have Tiano in 4th place in the competition, and Dak thinks Tiano is the guy that is going to win the job. They are all big kids, and they all have good arms.
Mullen does love big QBs.

Mullens strength is developing qb's.

2010 with Chris Relf @ QB was 9-4. Same record as Dak 2015.

Mullen develops QBs well... and last year we all picked MSU to finish dead last. Not in the West mind you, but in the SEC.
There will be some growing pains, there always are, but unless the Bulldogs get hit with a string of injuries I suspect they will put up another decent to good record. If I'm the AD for a big name program I'd take a long hard look at Mullen if I had to fill the HC spot.
