Vandy needs a coach like Malzahn since they can't recruit with the big boys (for various reasons...some of which Vandy should be proud of).

I think Malzahn's scheming - given he gets a couple of adequate playmakers - will get Vandy to a bowl.

Thoughts?

why does this idea suck?

The Tennessean is reporting this story as if it's bound to happen.

Vandy's a tough go for any coach. I think GM waits for a better offer. JMHO

Malzahn? Vandy?

i wonder why a Jimbo Fisher or a Bo Pelini wouldn't have been interested in an amazing perennial powerhouse like Vandy.

Best case scenario for him is that he has similar success to Hal Mumme while at Kentucky. I think GM may be Hal Mumme, ten years later. Vandy does not have the infrastructure or tradition to be a sustainable SEC football program year in and out.

I've got Vandy buddies who want to believe that they could be similar to Stanford with the right coach, but deep down, they acknowledge that it is not going to happen.

I don't think Nick Saban could make it to Atlanta coaching Vandy, much less a guy 5 years removed from high school.

Recruiting is already tough enough at Vandy and to my knowledge, GM is a complete unknown from a recruiting standpoint. Does he bring Trooper with him to assist in recruiting?

Trooper wouldn't attract the kind of kids who are academically Vandy material.

Jimbo was actually headed to UAB a few years ago if the UA BOT hadn't made them hire Calloway. I think coaches ego's push them to be the HC anywhere, otherwise Jacksonville, North Dakota, etc would never have a coach. I think Vandy could have success in football with the right guy. The baseball and basketball teams are usually better than most of the SEC

I think half of auburn's offense was Cam improvising and had nothing to do with GM's play call. He is a good OC. Don't know about his recruiting. But if you think he can go to Vandy, be a HC and OC just 4 years removed from being a high school coach then he will fail miserably. He can teach his system to an OC but it won't be as good as his - never happens that way.
Can Vandy even get the players he needs to run his offense?
I don't understand why everyone thinks good coordinators automatically equate to good head coaches. Some do - many don't. There are reasons that assistants are assistants for their entire careers.
Just my thoughts.......

Why is it a fail, douche bag?

Malzahn is being heavily rumored for the Vandy job here in Nashville.

Get your arse back over to ITAT where it belongs.

It would be a good move for Malzahn in my opinion. A big name school isn't going to throw that kind of money at a coach with no head coaching experience.

All he has to do is get Vandy to bowl games and he's still a genius. Then he's in line for a big school.

itS not a flame vandy fans in Nashville think they have a shot so quit acting like a little bitch because you don't want to lose your OC. It's a legitimate thread and the money may be right

Malzahn will excel in any program he chooses, IMO. But I don't want him to go to Vandy. We've already lost State as a gimme. Do we really want to see our teams get a yearly handful with Vandy?

And Nutt's worst nightmare. Vandy has been a thorn in Nutt’ side every since he made some flippant remark about being glad they rotated back on Arkansas’ schedule. He went out and promptly lost to them 28-24 with McFadden and Jones getting only two carries between the two of them for the entire game.

Vandy needs to hire Jim Harbaugh as a consultant and tell him to find them one, "just like you Jim".

Hog fans didn't know anything when we wanted to hire Gus (HIGH SCHOOL) as OC....and Nut abused him
