Slive just said the NCAA was in the process of dropping the hammer on your team and you think I should be mad?

Can you please post the link where Slive said what you claim?

Does the NCAA’s investigation of Cam Newton and his father, Cecil, remain open?
MS: You’re going to have to ask them, but nobody has written me a letter that says it’s over.
I think he clearly was implying that dropping the hammer on AU was imminent.

can we get a rule put in that if your gonna make a baseless attack or claim, and don't have a link to back it up you get a temp ban?

And who was Pat Dye's mentor??? Hmmm...I wonder??
Ding, Ding, winner, winner chicken dinner, Although not the main point I was eluding to just a side one. The ATPBer known as Crow Pie, is a Troy fan or Alum or something. Who is the number one donor over at Troy and on the BOT? Just curious if Crow can dish it, can he take it as well.

No, no, no. The investigation is over, you just have to read what wasn't said. Look:
quote:
MS: You’re going to have to ask them, but nobody has written me a letter that says it’s over.
"Nobody" has written Slive a letter? Nobody has written me a letter, too. I'm telling you, Slive has received a letter from "somebody" at the NCAA's office that the investigation is over, and he knows the outcome. He's just using that tricky lawyer-speak to weasel around the question.

Here is what else Slive had to say on the issue recently:
Sounds like Robin Masters is getting his info from TS and ATPB exclusively.
quote:
Slive felt at the time the right decision was made to allow Newton to play, and he doesn’t feel any differently now that he’s had time to reflect on everything. Moreover, while some around the country might attach an asterisk to this season based on everything that was swirling around Newton, Slive does not.
“I don’t view it with an asterisk,” Slive said. “But looking back on it, the facts at this point and time haven’t changed. The NCAA hasn’t come up with anything that I’m aware of today that changes the facts that led to the decision to reinstate (Newton), so I am exactly in the same place as I was (when he was reinstated).
“We take pride in having the national champion and take great pride in having won it five years in a row, but the facts have not changed. It’s now time to look forward and see what legislation needs to be put in place to deal with the kind of conduct that we find reprehensible and don’t want in intercollegiate athletics.”

of course he does - he showed up for ATPB - and unfortunately stuck around - as did Crow Pie.

I have no idea if Slive is right or wrong, but the ATPBers (Robin Masters in this thread) believed his comments were bad for AU and indicated that the NCAA hammer was coming down soon, when in fact his comments suggest the opposite.

Great thread!! it has clearly identified the schism on viewpoints.
Like a good novel, everybody loves a good CAMparison and constrast.
Is it safe to say the answer is none of the 7 other teams spent a massive amount of cold hard public cash on Legal Fees directly relative to any of the players involved in their BCS NC years?

WOW....I asked a simple question....what other SEC teams spent a quarter of a million dollars* on legal fees on a player during there NC year?
So far it seems Auburn is the only one to pony up that kind of coin**.
*estimated that the $170K in conjunction with the associated cost of their In house counsul and document prepartion etc....would equal close to $250K.
**FYI - the USC Trojans are not in the SEC

Crow Pie: To answer your question
2009- The committee ordered Alabama to vacate 21 victories in football and one in tennis. The university also must pay a fine to the NCAA of $43,900, the cost of the free textbooks distributed.
2009- Alabama paid the firm Bond, Schoeneck & King $188,422 in legal fees during a 2008-09 investigation of its football program, according to the Mobile Press-Register.
1992 - he case took a twist last month when Pullen's attorneys countered with the revelation that Jelks' attorney, Stan Kreimer, had written 28 checks totaling almost $37,000 to his client since taking the case in 1992. Judge Linda Warren Hunter agreed with their request for Kreimer's dismissal, and the Decatur attorney has sought to appeal the decision.
1992-Jerry Pullen, an ex-Alabama football coach who has brought a defamation suit against a former player, has acknowledged an Alabama booster helped pay some of his own legal fees.
1992- Langham case -Consider the resources on the Alabama side.
Hilliard is a former NCAA investigator and case manager. Joining him are university attorney Stan Murphy; athletics department rules compliance coordinator Marie Robbins; and Gene Marsh, the school's faculty athletics representative and a law school professor who happens to be one of the eight members of the NCAA infractions committee.

Nice try Chadau79
The expenses you listed for 2009 were based on the case from the previous season's (2008) text book case. The expenses you listed for the Langham case were based on events that happened AFTER the Championship had been won. and the Jelks case had nothing to do with either of those two championship teams. But thanks for playing.

Nice try T Rey WI.
The question was:
quote:
How much did UF, LSU, UA & TN spend on legal fees for their NC years?
And didn't address whether the fees were incurred for events that allegedly happened during the NC years. But thanks for playing.

Come on T Rey WI - you messed up all his research.

Crow Pie, What are your thoughts on Troy? How corrupt do you think they are? Just curious, since you seem obsessed with Auburn
Well seeing that Larry Blakeney was the Auburn coach who told Eric Ramsey to "Keep it on the down home cuz" I would say that the odds of Troy being corrupt are pretty good. He did learn from one of the better violators Pat Dye.
Damn, NYCAUBURN did you think this statement thru?
