to keep his job. I say at least 8 and I dont see him getting that many. So next year will probably be the last for Mike Shula JR.

Hes got to win the east.

8 sounds about right. Maybe 7, if he gets a win he is not supposed to and he quits wearing those ridiculous orange pants.

Isn't there a whole other Board for this?

Im not sure how you Tennessee fans are even putting up with him. A traditional power program like Tennessee really has no business getting beat by Kentucky and missing bowl games. I really have zero faith that Dooley will turn it around over there.
I think he needs 9+ wins to stay.
ETA: It will probably take 8-9 wins for Tennessee to keep him. 8 as an absolute minimum though.

I agree 100% if it was my decision the man would have been fired after the Kentucky press conference. People say give him more time but time cant fix a bad football coach. Dooley is a good guy like Shula but a bad football coach.

this thread is a grey area since he is still at Tenn.
and i think 7 wins, with signs of improving, should be fine

9. I don't see it happening by a long shot, though.

"Good guy, terrible football coach"
Now you know what it was like for UGA from 1989-1995. We refer to that as the Goff era...

Eight, maybe seven.
Those personal hygiene classes go along way in the eyes of administrators. Wonder if Barb designed them, approved of them?

I would say seven giving the state of your roster. You will still be undermanned and young in key positions next year.

I'll go with 6. Has to beat NC State, GSU, Akron, Troy, Vandy, and Kentucky.
Beating Florida, Georgia, MSU, Bama, South Carolina, and Missouri is not going to be easy. I would be shocked if he wins one of those, much less two to get to the 8 wins that some are saying.
Six wins will get them to a bowl game. And, that would be enough I think.

8 wins saves it, but it should be 9 or bust with UT's schedule next year and a veteran QB.

WHOA WHOA WHOA there! Dooley isn't half as good as what Shula was at Bama. Think about that. Not saying Shula was good, but he did reel off a 10 wins season in 05 and fielded competitive teams.

Here's the way I see it:
He needs to win all 4 OOC. He needs to beat MSU, Mizzou, Vandy, and UK.
He needs to win 1 or more out of UF, UGA, Bama, and USC.

I agree at least Shula won 10 games in 2005.

He probably needs 7.
caveats
1. And Kentucky better be one of the wins.
2. If he loses the opener to NC State, he better win one no one expects, or he wont be around for the Kentucky game. If he gets off to a bad start, they wont wait around for the finale.
And N.C. State is not a gimme. As memory serves, they routed Clem did they not? Yep. 37-13.
The sad thing is that with Dooley on the hot-seat Manning's expectation expressed from the booth during the LSU - UT game, that Dooley begin national recruiting, ie get the BIG recruits, is not happening. No "national recruit" is going to UTk if they see the buzzards circling.

Dooley better be recruiting some top talent Juco players to help out next season. He's still gonna have a young team and his job will be on the line in '12.
Posted on 11/30/11 at 10:27 am to tennfanatic
If he recruits more talent and doesn't have as many injuries next year to his starters as he had this year, he should do well.
Tennessee, you'd be advised to be patient. He did very well in first halves vs LSU and Alabama this year. Give the man a chance.
