I don't understand why he's on the hot seat. I guess if they slide back this year, that would put him there, but he's progressed the program in the right direction.

7-5 in year 3 isn't a ringing endorsement.

Then that's the definition of a hot seat. 7-5 is 100% on the table for OU this year. I didn't realize it was that hot.
I think OU is gonna be good this year. The best DL in the country, and the offense should be fixed. I think 9-10 wins is reasonable. But yes Venables is on thin ice.

“Billy Napier (Florida)”
Florida finished the season strong and looks to continue to improve. Fan base has become delusional thinking they are going be like Spurrier/Meyer every year. But those days are getting dimmer every year in the rear view mirror.
If they keep firing and hiring coaches every 3-4 years, they will continue to reap average football teams.

So you think less than 8 and it's possible he's fired?
7 is a disappointment, but I guess it depends on how the team looks in the losses. He'll have to be competitive against Texas. 6? He's gone.

2. Kentucky
- Although Stoops has had a great career, and I would have loved to see him at a major program (FSU/Texas A&M), the program is in shambles. Boosters and fans dislike him (due to TAMU fiasco)…they likely chase Sumrall.
Coach Stoops is definitely on the hot seat here. He built Kentucky up in to a respectable program. But the last 3 season have left a sour taste in the fan bases mouth. It's just felt like we've slowly been declining after he had us winning 8-10 games a year... a rare feet for us.
Throw in the debacle with him potentially leaving for the Texas A&M job, and some piss poor comments in the media ("Pony Up") asking the fan base for more money after delivering subpar results, and a lot of folks got fed up.
The majority of the UK fan base is basically in "put up or shut up" mode for this season. Stoops has to deliver the goods this year and get back to the blue collar hard nosed football he had us playing that led to all our success. If it starts looking like a repeat of last year, the fan base is going to bail. Rich Brooks raised the UK fanbase's expectations for what is possible with Kentucky football. So in Year 3 of Joker Phillips' tenure (a former UK play mind you) started looking piss poor, the fans said enough and refused to go to the games. We sent a message to the administration and forced their hand to fire him. So if Stoops goes down that road this year, the same thing might happen
However, his buyout according to a report from “A Sea of Blue,” if Stoops is fired after the 2025 season, his buyout will cost $37.5 million. Additionally, another aspect of the buyout that could prove problematic is the third amendment in Stoops’ contract. It states that his buyout must be paid within 60 days of the notice to terminate. And that figure doesn't even include the salaries of the staff that would be let go too, pushing the number closer to $50 million.

This is where Shane Beamer was before the start of last year. Suddenly, his fortunes have changed dramatically. Maybe more than any other SEC coach. Stoops doesn't really feel that way for me because of his inability to put a decent offense on the field. He has never figured out that side of the LOS.

The buyout is the only reason I don't think Stoops can be fired this season.
