We're named after an arse kicking we gave LSU, so Razorbacks aren't related.

I thought Auburn was in Georgia.

Come on man, have some fun. It's a prod not a flame; there's a severe lack of good willed combat on this board.

Auburn has had 4 name changes throughout their history. They started out as the East Alabama Male College; then became the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama; then the Alabama Polytechnic Institute (API), the name under which they won their national championship; then finally in 1960 the name was officially changed to Auburn University.
I'm an Auburn graduate and I would be hard pressed to remember all that.
AUBSESSION??

FYI...
THE SAME SHERMAN WHO MARCHED THRU GEORGIA WAS THE FIRST CHANCELLOR OF LSU. he founded lsu in pineville, la, and resigned in 1861 to fight for the union.

I happened to know that, I'm surprised you brought it up. You're not going to make LSU any friends

Which is why I've always been suspicious of LSU.

Not SEC but UNC - Chapel Hill's mascot is a civil war reference.

Most people from Louisiana know this, we just choose to disassociate the fact that a promenient Union general founded LSU. It is like if you had an evil father(in this case grandfather), there is nothing you can do about it.

Could we please refrain from calling it the Civil War, and use its proper title. The War of Northern Aggression

As an OM fan, I am not allowed to talk about the war. If I do, Chancellor Jones may take away my degree even though he wasn't chancellor when I earned it

Auburn: No, Came from the town its in, which is a common town name through the English speaking world. It came from an Irish poem by Oliver Goldsmith.
Tigers: No, also came from a William Blake poem
War Eagle: Yes, since the nominal "war" from the legend is the civil war.
Where did "Plainsmen" come from?

UNC is a Revolutionary Reference actually. British crossing the river or some such.
