first started it only allowed 4 of the 10 teams and I'm not sure about the other teams (especially Vanderbilt) but Ole Miss baseball kinda went downhill when the tournament started and didn't get actually good again till the late 90's.
They got good again???

... like Saban, in football?
I dunno, just asking. Seems like I remember hearing that somewhere.

We were also really, really good from 1995-1999.

We like to go 2 and barbecue in the tourney. Even when we won it all we sucked in the tourney. Ray didn't GAF about it.

Yeah. We had 4 CWS final appearances under Ray and 2 Titles. 1 conference tourney title under Ray and I'm not sure if we even made it to the finals other than that.

So is it safe to say that Omaha apperances (regardless of outcome) are alot more important the SEC tourney championships value wise?
I know overall of course they are, but just curious within the conference how big a deal it was. Like in football regardless of postseason winning in Atlanta is a big deal. Didnt know how baseball compared.

Conference tournaments for baseball & basketball don't matter all that much.

I've concluded UGA's athletic department is a complete and utter failure, even comparative to Auburn's. They have the competitive advantage in all facets compared to almost every SEC school, yet they seem to chronically underachieve in pretty much everything.
Since this thread is about baseball, let it be noted that UGA has 6 CWS appearances(with 4 coming since AU's last CWS berth) while AU has a total of 4...
Also UGA has 1 CWS Championship along with One 2nd place finish & AU has accomplished neither...

Word, I am usually not on here much around baseball season because that is the heart of Turnaround season for me. Luckily I am at a site that doesnt have EVERYTHING blocked.

Our women's swimming and diving team along with our men's tennis and men's golf team say you can suck it.

That's a pretty cool stat. Reminds me of how the media had Auburn winning the West in football, but Alabama winning the SEC Championship.

I'd trade Bama's success in the SEC Tournament for more appearances in the CWS. South Carolina has only won the SECT once and their programs perception is much different because of their success in the postseason.

I'm pretty sure we've appeared in every SEC baseball tournament since we joined the conference.
In fact, a quick search reveals that we have 3 tournament appearances in 3 seasons.

you can't compare it to football. in baseball, the regular season champ is the "real" champ, just like basketball. a lot of teams in the sec baseball tournament routinely have basically taken it off to prepare for the ncaa tournament. ray tanner did it for years. skip bertman took this approach many times too. mainieri loves winning it for whatever reason. but yes, making it to omaha is all that matters. sometimes it matters for select schools trying to get a bid, although, until it expanded to 10 and now 12 schools, it was rare to make the sect and miss the ncaat. only other reason to try is to try to lock up a national seed

Enough that you will never see Texas A&M surpass us in your lifetime.

Reread my post, actually comprehend it, then reply next time. Regardless, I wouldn't expect anything less.

So just to bring home the point about SC:
From 2010-2012 we won two national titles and were CWS runner-ups in 2012.
During that stretch we were 32-4 in the NCAA tournament, setting the record for consecutive wins at 22.
We were also 16-4 in Omaha, setting the record for consecutive CWS wins at 12. 2 of those losses came in the 2012 CWS finals series lost to Arizona.
In the three SEC tournaments for those years we were a combined 2-6.
So we had 8x as many CWS wins than SEC-T wins.

1995-1999, I was growing up as a little baseball playing kid and Alabama was having it's best 5 year baseball run ever. LSU and Miami had to ruin it. Bastards.
1995-1999
247-90 (73.3%) overall
100-47 (68.0%) SEC
3 50+ win seasons
5 40+ win seasons
4 SECT Championships
1 SEC Regular Season Championship
5 NCAA Tournaments
3 CWS
2 CWS Top 3 finishes
1 CWS Runner-up

And Auburn during the same time period was 225-91 with 4 super regional appearances and a CWS berth. We also had a CWS berth in 1994.
College baseball was fantastic in this state during the 90s.
