We're very low on scholarship players right now. Had lots of players leave early for the draft, which is somewhat normal. Then we had several 2nd and 3rd string players enter the transfer portal because they wanted to go elsewhere and start. Now some of our starters are opting out and their backups have gone. So I'm not sure canceling the season, for us at least, isn't the best option.

How many of those with 0 are simply not reporting it and the players and their families aren't making a big deal of it? It would be surprising if all teams didn't have some who will opt out....

Teams are practicing now and, at least at Bama, there is a report daily of any players not at practice and a timeline for return (even if TBD) is mentioned. I'd imagine at this stage if someone was opting out, they wouldn't be at practice "putting themselves at risk".

To be fair, Bama has not and will not make public any player who chooses to opt out. A player of course may personally choose to go public.
