It is a hot take.
Bump this sunday if Nix carves up the defense. I can own a misread on the upcoming game.
Nix threw 50 pass attempts with 0 picks last season. And UGA shut the offense down for 3 quarters. 4 yards per attempt and 8 yards per completion.
Malzahn and Morris are going to force the ball downfield this season. It isnt going to be a usual game for Nix. He will either shine or struggle. I'm predicting the streak to be broken.

He is 2nd in the nation with the most pass attempts without a INT(1# Trevor Lawerence)
Hasnt thrown a pick since October 26, 2019 vs LSU.
Your QB Dwayne Matthews threw a horid pick vs Arky, i would worry about your QBs.

Nix isn't very mistake prone, and the staff protects him. That doesn't mean he won't throw up some 50/50 balls.
If UGA goes up early and Kirby doesn't elect to go soft coverage like last season I can see some picks. If the barn is made one dimensional I can see a likely pick or two.
Otherwise he probably doesn't throw one unless we win a jump ball. So in that scenario we'll call it 50/50.

AU didn’t give up one sack against one of the better Defenses in the league last week.

nix is keen on throwing it out of bounds, to a fault. Not a big risk taker at all. For better and worse.

While the Barn is breaking in a new OL, their OL last season was trash.

I mean, no one is really saying he will carve up the defense. But acting like he has a interception problem is just dumb. He may throw one. Eventually he will. But as of now, its not a issue with Nix.
I guess when he eventually throws a pick, you will be here to say "I told you so".

I never acted like he has a interception problem.
That's what makes this weekend against the Dawgs relevant and significant.
Nix threw the ball 50 times last season for an average completion of 8 yards.
Do you think Malzahn and Morris will take the same approach?
Do you expect them to run the ball more into the Dawgs front 7?
Or do you expect them to change up the MO with a more experienced QB this time around and hope for a different result?
Honest question. You can tell which way I am leaning. I'm not an Auburn expert. I've caught 2 podcasts expecting Nix to push the ball downfield all game, and logic tells me that Malzahn will not want a repeat of last season.

I think we throw it around again. Our OL struggled in run blocking, but actually looked decent in pass pro. I just don’t think we can produce a ton on the ground against that front 7. It’s only been one game, but our passing game looked much better. Last year everything was seemingly a pass behind the LOS or chunking up a prayer deep ball. Saturday we saw a much more diverse passing attack. Our best player is Seth Williams and I expect us to try and get him the ball.
I expect the offense to struggle and look ugly at times.

We set a lot of plays that didn't get used last week. There are differences in what Gus does to set up the pass and Morris (based on VERY limited sample size). Gus tends towards either straight vertical routes or passes to the flat. Against KY we ran a lot of high/intermediate/low sets with various receivers doing different things. I know how obvious this sounds but it is a big change for our offense. I expect our run game to be more smooth than it was against Kentucky as well as for us to use some end arounds that we set up last week but never used. Hopefully, those plays in concert with actually having to respect a route tree will put more pressure on your excellent defense. Arkansas had people running free when you were in zone and I think our receivers are better. We also didn't throw to the tailbacks much last week, which should be a big part of our offense. Shivers, in particular, is a really good and dangerous receiver. Mark Antony Richards, who missed practice so didn't play last week, is also a dangerous receiver. We'll try to run early to see if we can get anything going against y'all but I expect a pass first game. It should be fun to watch.

It'll be interesting to see if Gus has the same approach as he did last Saturday. If he does I think we get at least one off Nix.
There's no doubt that our defense needs turnovers for us to win the game.

We had a busted play where the blitz broke through and flushed Franks. Lecounte bit on the scramble and lost his receiver in the process.
We got burned in man coverage when Tyreke Stevenson was playing the nickel against a Waddle type slot receiver (mismatch that got us twice for big gains). Switching personnel to Webb who is a true DB or Daniels who is a third starting CB allowed us to take that away later in the game.
I dont agree on your zone assessment.

Our OLB are excellent at staying home and sealing the edge. I'm expecting a few TFLs for Nolan Smith as he is now a sophomore and doesnt get fooled with eye candy. He has Roquan Smith level play recognition. And he was the #1 recruit in the country because he finishes plays.
And so long as Jordan Davis stays healthy, the interior run game will be a liability for Auburn.
Auburn passed the ball 50 times last season because you had 2.33 yards per rush with only 2 sacks for 8 yards counting against that total.
The run defense is better this year.
The more you run, the more you setup 2nd and 3rd and long.

I doubt it. OUr oline is brand new and did not open any holes against Kentucky so I dont see them doing it tomorrow.

I think they are going to do a lot of what they did Saturday. I dont see us having a very complex offense right now with limited practice this fall, a new system and coordinator and a brand new offensive line. I think it will be a lot of what we did against Kentucky.

Well, as bad as last season was. Auburn was one stupid missed swing pass from winning so its not like they were out of it.
The offense was different last year. The play caller was different and they players were different. Its not going to be the same either way. I would expect a 50/50 run pass mix with a few shots down field.

Don't misunderstand me...but Kentucky is not considered one of the best defenses in the SEC. Their Oline is one of the best, but ESP ranked their defense #8 in the SEC.
Saturday Down South
Again, Nix protects the ball extremely well, imo. But you might have gone overboard with your praise of Kentucky's "D".
ETA
I just noticed that the box score also says Auburn gave up a sack.

Oh, and he's only thrown one INT in his last 7 games.
Not picking on you particularly.
I didnt watch Auburn week 1.
But I know UGA.
I knew the streak was going to end. It could have been worse if Lecounte didnt get shafted on the targeting ejection (4 picks in prior 2 games).
