It shouldn't surprise anyone when dealing with Auburn that multiple factions were running around doing their own thing. The AD appears to have zeroed in on Harsin a few days before anyone else heard his name but probably not from the beginning of the search. Other members of the committee were the ones leaking news (Notably to Philip Marshall who many of them have known for years). I absolutely think some of the boosters were all in on Steele from the beginning. Other interviews DID happen but once Christobal (sp?) signed his extension none of them seemed to go much further than hearing about the coach's plan for staff. Conflicting staff plans certainly derailed Napier so I don't think they got as far as an actual job offer with him.

Out of a group that is probably close to a million strong you can most likely find someone that believes just about anything.
This is random but my Dad's office at Auburn had been Shug's office the year before. Shug retired the year I was born. So when I was a little bitty dude and would sometimes be at the office causing trouble there would almost always be an old timer that would stop by and tell tales. I literally grew up on those stories of Tucker Frederickson, Jimmy Sidle, Red Phillips and all those old timers. Pat Sullivan would also park his car in Dad's space (the office was across the parking lot from the stadium) and the university police wouldn't give him a ticket. :) By all accounts he was a good man. I'm liking to his last Auburn Football Review. Swan Song

Gus is more likely to be on a mural for the 2010 season than anything else. Harbert donated 40 million and got the business school named after him so that one is taken.
I'm hoping he keeps the OL Coach Bedell and the TE Coach Riddle from Boise. Harsin seems to use a lot of Gus's run concepts which should make player fit pretty easy. For anyone else we'll have to see the OC and DC he brings in. Rumors are flying about how might or might not get retained and who would be on the short list for hires but I doubt anyone has a clue.

You truly think it’s that one sided?

You have to realize, in a bama fan's head the only reason they've ever lost was because of luck or conspiracy. The kick six wasn't luck, it was a good coaching call recognizing the kicker didn't have the leg to make one that long. I could go on. Tua was made of glass so of course he wasn't going to finish the season.

Then you must recognize that when Auburn has players that can't go because of injury it is lack of depth and poor recruiting. When Tuscaloosa players aren't available it is because of luck.

Having no idea if it IS his dream job or not, he coached high school ball in TN for a while.

I'm really grateful that we have some football to enjoy, but you're right it doesn't feel like a real season. It is like a long procession of spring games.

I think it is going to depend on who Auburn has that can play. Rumors are that a bunch of guys will miss the game.

re: Lack of Defense in the SEC

I think one of the factors is defense has to play together more than offenses (All 11 have to do their thing) so are more effected by the reduced practices. Individual effort can certainly make plays on D but it is usually in pass rushes or coverage. The team factors seem to be returning experience and an existing scheme. Squads that have both are generally doing the best where those with the least are doing the worst.

Don't get me wrong, the offenses are just much better than they were years ago but I think the defensive fall off we've seen this seen isn't just because of that.

May I request an addendum consisting mainly the lack of kick6, Bama kickers, and Cam dolls.

Hmm, (looks through mountain of paperwork) It appears the Cam doll is expired so no problem there. The kick six doll was one time use. Y'all actually traded us the kicker doll for our previous Shula doll so I doubt you'd want that back.

Seems like the Georgia ceremony is always a dud, but the kinks are worked out in time for the Iron Bowl.

There may be a maximum number of voodoo dolls we can empower in a single season. I'm not sure but will ask the committee.

Auburn’s forgotten to perform their voodoo ritual only 5 times in the last 4 years?

For whatever reason it doesn't work against Georgia. We're tweaking the ceremony in hopes of having the improved version ready for next season.

I had it really early and initially thought I was having altitude sickness (living in Central Alabama at around 70 feet above sea level). I was pretty sick for three days or so and felt off kilter for a few weeks afterwards. I'm a healthy guy 45 years old. My older sister (early 50's) got it and was extremely sick (not hospital but could barely eat, dizzy, like a really bad flu) for three weeks back in July and is still tired. My oldest nephew (23 years old in extremely good condition) was hella sick for a week or so in early August and bounced back but still sometimes gets tired. He's a sheriff's deputy and works in the jail and basically all of his coworkers have gotten it with varying symptoms.
That would be pretty funny if posters started wearing jerseys with usernames on the back. One of the haters might get a bottle broken over their noggins.

Auburn played regular home games in Birmingham until the late 70's (From what I've heard).

re: FEI Rankings : Offense, Defense

It is hard to put a lot of value in national rankings where the conferences aren't playing each other. Is earning a yard of offense in the SEC the same as earning one in the Pac12? If MS State played some out of conference teams would they look better, etc?
As an Auburn fan I fully expected the juggernaut we saw in Columbia. I don't see how anyone else can feel different. :wah:
That is a truly amazing Sonic density. I looked up the populations of each city thinking BR might just be much, much larger (220k to 101k) but there is still nearly twice the Sonic per population in addition to much better Cajun Food. As a party that is cheering for Big Meteor rather than any of these teams I have to give the win (in this narrow case, not the actual game) to LSU.

Wow, I'm really surprised by all the responses. Thanks everyone. My father is still with us. He's an 82 year old Vietnam Vet redneck that graduated from Auburn with his masters after the war in 72. The notebooks (a few games from the 96 season and all of 97) along with most of my army memorabilia (signed flags from various countries, etc) were lost when I got in a car wreck while I was moving a long time ago.

My youngest nephew and I actually moved a couch to my parent's house Saturday and I showed him all the responses to my post. Neither he or I had thought about it in years. He might have gotten a little misty and it gave us a reason to tell the nephew that story. For real everyone, thanks for the responses. It was a good day.
