The what?
It's called US history, grab a book (Bleeding Kansas) on the Missouri/Kansass Border War and get a better understanding of where the Civil War truly started.....5-6 years before Fort Sumter.
quote:
Civil war raged along the Kansas-Missouri border for nearly a decade in the mid-nineteenth century. The struggle over the fate of slavery in Kansas Territory erupted into partisan bloodshed in 1856. The rising number of fugitive slaves and tensions fueled by vengeful irregular violence swept across the border and threatened to push the leaders of Missouri and Kansas toward open warfare. The start of the national Civil War in 1861 brought even greater devastation, wrought less by the scattered battles between Union and Confederate armies than the widespread guerrilla war that raged through 1865, destroying several communities and displacing thousands of families.
After the CSA formally surrendered to the Union in April of 1865 some in MO continued the resistance against the Union with guerrilla/bushwhacking tactics.

An intense rivalry that is overshadowed by the fact that both football programs have never been consistently good, therefore the big games on a national scale between the two are rare and therefore the series as a whole never garnered much national attention.
Only original Big 8 members understand it. Even the fanbases from the Big 12 south outside of the Oklahoma schools didn’t get it.

I remember some pretty good basketball games over the years.
Football? I knew they played yearly. That's about it.

Are yall finally gonna fill your 60k stadium this weekend?
I think Mizzou sold out every home game in 2024. If I recall they have a 14 or 15 game sellout streak going.

The war is still ongoing in an economic sense between KCMO and Johnson/Wyandotte Co Kansas.
If the city of KC and the state of MO doesn't get their collective shite together the state of MO is going to lose the KC Royals and the KC Chiefs to Kansass. I think the Royals likely end up across the border and the Chiefs may follow.

The border of what? The north and the south? We lost obviously because you made it into the SEC.

Tell us about it and give us as much info as you possibly can on THIS thread.
If fact, keep it all here so we can refer to it a lot since it will remain on first page.
We’d love to know.

If I remember right KU Missouri has been played like 120 years in a row or something to that extent one of the longest rivalries in college football . Either that or times played is one of the top 5-10 games played in college football I forget .

The burning ^^^^ of Lawrence KS by MO Bushwhackers and Confederate loyalists.
The burning ^^^^ of Oceola MO by red legged Kansass Jayhawkers.
Many people died in both raids.

I’m aware, and I’m all for traditional rivalries continuing and/or resuming
Same with Bedlam and LSU playing Tulane

KU didn't want to play MU in any sports after MU left for the SEC. The ku football team was in shambles, their basketball program was still top notch but they were completely butt hurt that MU left the conference. If I recall their excuse was MU is no longer in the Big 12 but I think ku played Colorado and Nebraska in various sports after both teams left the Big 12 conference. I will say the ku football team is better today than it's been in the past 15 years so at least there is a chance for a good game. I think Mizzou likely wins but ku has a knack for getting up for a MU vs ku football game.

I live in Lawrence, so I know it pretty well.

The funniest thing about the Missouri-Kansas rivalry is they’re both named after Union militia forces from their towns.
What’s even more bizarre is Mizzou fans larp as Confederates by rallying around a character known for guerrilla raids on Union camps in Kansas, focusing on his attack of Lawrence, KS.
