Personally I would have put hayward in over Mathieu and especially over Menzie
Hayward's nickname needs to be "The Invisible Man"...

To be fair, he's not a blanket cover like PP, but he's completely redefining the position of "Ball Hawk". He's an immeasurable freak. There is no traditional slot or mold you can put him in.
Bingo. That's all some Bama fans said in the other thread. But, to some of the LSU fans, this equated to "TM7 sucks".
And to base a DB on his AA status on whether or not he is a great "cover corner" is completely asinine.

I've also seen them argue that the special teams stats don't (or shouldn't) count.
What do st stats have to do with cornerbacks? And idk why y'all are pointing your fingers at Bama fans. Bama fans didn't vote. The coaches did.

And LSU fans said DB is more than just "cover corner", which we still haven't seen a good response too. He plays at cornerback, and puts up some of the best stats in the nation = should be an all american.

So are Bama fans saying that the position of CB should only consider "shut down" coverage, and not take into effect tackling, interceptions, fumbles forced, fumbles recovered, TD's resulting from forced turnovers, etc., etc.?
I'll ask you, Teague states that TM7 is not an elite DB. Do you agree?

Says you! We can just call it the Ron Cooper special. Keep an eye out for Micha Eugene the next few years. He's the honey badgers future replacement. Who knows how he will do, but he's getting great amount of praise.

Here's and interesting comparison.
Menzie - 37 tackles, 3.0 TFL, 1.5 Sacks, 1 INT, 11 Pass BRK UP, 1 FR
Unnamed CB - 29 tackles, 6.5 TFL, 3.5 Sacks, 2 INT, 6 Pass BRK UP, 2 FF, 3 FR, 2 Defensive TD
Anyone got a gander who the Unnamed DB is?

Ed Reed and Troy Palumalu are not elite cover guys. Why are they given post season awards?

Which was my point when I said he wasn't an elite DB.
he is an elite db, the problem is this all-american team apparently doesn't see the need to recognize a 5th DB, i.e. nickel/rover type player. With all of the spread being played, this has become a near every-down position. If they simply say "we need 2 lock down corners and 2 safeties" that probably leaves TM7 out.

There will be other all-american teams released.

I guess I'm not even talking about just return stats, but special teams play overall. I'm not really sure how you can say that shouldn't "count" when determining AA, if someone has been equally noteworthy there as they have been at the actual position.
It's okay, though. I wasn't meaning to "point fingers".

Tyrann Mathieu has 70 tackles this year. Check your source again.

I don't know why anybody cares. TM will be named AA on at least one of the other 4 AA teams for sure.
