Now that basketball season is well underway, do we have any contenders in our conference?

Several really good teams: Arky, Bama, KY, Auburn, Tenner.

Some others playing well: MSU, Missouri, LSU.

Most disappointing so far: Texas A&M.

Meh, we barely beat a mediocre Michigan team Sunday.

We are going to be athletic, fast, and deep but we’re going to have to win on defense and rebounding because our outside shooting is atrocious. We’re all in the rear view mirror chasing the Hawgs. They are stacked.

Alabama is good, but I'm worried we're going to see some of what we did last year - beating really good teams, then coming out flat against mediocre teams.

If we avoid that going forward I like our chances. We have the potential to be REALLY good this year.

We usually find out a lot about our team after Christmas break. We usually improve drastically during that timeframe. We have the pieces, but the results haven’t been there yet so we’ll see

Tennessee is Jekyll and Hyde. They lose by 12 to a 4-5 Colorado team in Nashville and squeaked by a pretty good USC team by 7 in overtime but:

Beat Gonzaga by 19
Beat Butler by 26 in the Bahamas
Beat Kansas by 14 in the Bahamas

So outside the 12 point loss to a mediocre (at best team), they are beating opponents by an average of over 25 points. But that includes the Sisters of the Blind Community College teams that are mixed in with all pre-conference schedule match-ups.

They are balanced...They don't have a single player averaging over 12 points per game...but they have 5 averaging over 10. Their leading rebounder is only averaging 5.1 rebounds per game...but they have 5 players averaging over 4.5 rebounds per game.

It will be interesting to see how they fare as they roll into SEC play. They still have 8-0 Maryland and 7-1 Arizona between now and then.

Arky is stacked.

Muss is bringing them together.

No idea. But while UGA is still irrelevant in basketball, we seem to suck a bit less than we did with our last coach. Thanks UF.

Tennessee’s defense is elite. Offense is not. If they have a game where they’re hitting outside shots at a high percentage not many teams will beat them. Colorado game was all time bad offensively. They’ll have some games like that this but hope they get hot offensively at the end of the year.

Agree. I don’t think we score or shoot consistently enough to be a threat to win the league. Our depth may give us a chance in a conference tournament situation, but unlikely. Auburn looks like a round of 32 tournament team with a chance at sweet sixteen. Solid, usually fun to watch, but not likely to threaten for a conference title or deep tournament run.

My favorite non-A&M game back in the old Big 12. The hate at times was unreal. Good luck, it would be a great win.

This sounds like us last year. Beat Gonzaga and Houston, lose to Georgia and Texas A&M.

Rough start. I had hoped we'd be better. Last season we started strong, hit a brick wall, then went on a great run. I hope I'm wrong but I'm not seeing it this time.

We beat Clemson and Georgetown, but had a few underwhelming games. I think this team peaks as the year goes on, but for paris we are a few years away. which is fine.

Already won more games than all of last year...which says more about how bad we were last year than anything else.
