Not really. LSU had just won a national title with Saban. That situation was better for hiring a coach.

Here's the thing: We have continued to invest in our program in the Saban mode. Therefore, we can attract a quality coach.

Texas thought the same thing and got stuck with Strong.

Nebraska thought the same thing and got stuck with Riley.

Alabama has Saban because of lucky timing, not because they are awesome. Timing means a lot, and your fanbase wants to jump in the middle of the most competitive hiring offseason in years.

It's madness.

We're going to have LF7 auction off a few jerseys, that might raise 2-3 hundred dollars at this point. After that its bake sales, and pirogue washes for us. We're a poor but proud people. We'll get up the money somehow!

I think I disagree. In his interview (which was with Skip Bertman, btw), Saban used the words "National Championship within 5 years." He demanded the Cox Academic Center and a bigger recruiting budget. He gutted the roster from 2000-2002 and replaced those guys with his kinds of players.

No, I meant different from 1999.

Chavis simply wasn't worth a raise. His defenses didn't deliver on the field in 2013 or 2014 and then he turned around and wanted more money. And we were like sorry, pal, give us 2011 again and we'll pay you. Until then, nope.

All he did last year was trot out the best D in the conference. Yeah let's not pay humans hire Kevin Steele instead.

Chief was the brick and mortar of your program, which we argued and you laughably denied at the time of the hire. It doesn't surprise anyone that you've dropped three straight in November without Chief isn't there to conceal all the issues while dragging your program kicking and screaming to the finish line.

Yep, definitely not worth it.

We had similarly bad results with Chavis in 2014, so your point is completely overstated.

Dude we lost 3 games in the back end of 2014. That's the same result Steele has delivered.

Dude chief isn't responsible for your abhorrent excuse of an offense. He gave Les the best D in the conference and Les dropped three games.

Y'all seem full of regret. I would want to see another year of Steele's system myself.

Since 1999 the college football world got a lot more competitive. Maybe y'all are better, but so is your competition for coaches. Your program's relative position hasn't really changed.

Dude what? We have won two national titles in the past 12 years. Our position has changed. Sorry if that bothers you.

I do not regret losing Chavis. He wouldn't make the difference for this team. We can't move the ball, can't score. That's the problem.

Le5 gets another year to right things. Howevah...

If Le5 parts ways with L5U, Tiger fans will be underwhelmed with their 'splash hire.' Too many other jobs out there diluting the pool. And by that I mean the locations and/or the conference affiliations are easier to succeed at than L5U. Where expectations are out of line with reality.

You've dropped 30 or more in your three November losses this year. You gave up 17 and 20 in the two November losses you had with Chief in 2014.

Just stop.

And I have a feeling they're going to really, really regret it. There are a lot of people on the outside who think Miles needs at least another season. You risk tearing down any goodwill you've built up by getting rid of him in this fashion.

We have (arguably) the best offensive player in college football. We have elite players on every unit on both sides of the ball.

We don't need rebuilding, man. We need a few fresh ideas about how to move the ball. If I'm a coach like that, I look at LSU and say I could win it all next year. In 2016.

How is that not attractive?

Chief couldn't stop the other team when it mattered. We've been over this.

I agreed with that. It has changed. College football has also changed where its harder for programs to poach coaches from other Power 5 programs.

You program is better, but it is harder to steal a splash coach than it was in 1999 (like Jimbo to put a name on it). The relative situation for LSU hiring a coach has therefore remained about the same.

He's had 4 seasons since 2011, and all he's demonstrated is that he won't change his system or style at all. Same input, same output. Thinking otherwise is crazy.

Sounds like you need new coordinators, not a new HC.
