2017 median household income.
Iowa $63,481 (19th of 50)
Mississippi $43,441 (50th out of 50)

But Mississippi is kicking Iowa's arse in teen pregnancy 3rd, Iowa at 33rd. Only Arkansas and Okie are outperforming Mississippi in knocked up 9th graders. But sadly, the entire SEC is better at teen pregnancy than college football.

I wonder if there is somehow a correlation in these numbers???

I'm sure there is a decent amount of those types. May not be as readily apparent because its not the norm to travel to Iowa, or encounter people from Iowa.

It never ceases to amaze me that no matter where you go in America white trash can be observed.

The weirdest thing about Mississippi is the haircuts. Every white guy I have ever met from Mississippi (from 15 to 40) has the same haircut. It looks like a frat boy/ Polo commercial from th 80's. I kinda like the cut, but it is very Mississippi.

Am I the only one that has noticed this?

It's called a "men's haircut" and is pretty prevelant in every state in the south east except Florida and Arkansas. In the two exceptions (Fl. and Arky) the mullet is the haircut of choice.

Not surprised Mississippi folks are still sporting haircuts that fell out of fashion in 2008

Iowa has better quality people and actually produces stuff that people need, like food.

No southern states farm on nearly the same level as Iowa. The entire state is basically a giant corn field. The south's biggest crops are also generally non-food crops such as cotton and tobacco.

Nearly 20% of the corn in the US comes from Iowa. Most people don't realize either what an important crop corn really is. You don't think about how much of the food we eat has some type of corn based ingredient in it. It goes beyond just what humans consume as well, a large percentage of the corn grown goes to feed livestock, cattle, poultry, ect so that you can also have milk, eggs, and meat to eat.

Iowa is the bread basket of this country.

Pretty much every Christmas during my childhood.

Why do you think Iowa always ranks so high as a party school? Staying inside and drinking is the best thing to do Dec, Jan, Feb.

Clean energy has been huge for Iowa farmers. Not just the e85 ethanol either. Because the land is so flat and it gets so windy that energy companies are paying farmers to put up windmills on their land. They pay good money to use their land too, and they take up relatively little space so the farmers are still able to farm around them.

Driving past those huge windmill farms where there's a lot of them is really impressive to see. You don't realize how giant they are until you see them in person.

Iowa has a high rate of obesity. They’re like 13th or so in the country.
