Yea man, all those football championships since 1980 have certainly held back your basketball program.

I know he still has the stench of the scandal on him, but Rick Pitino would have Georgia in the Final 4 in 4 years...

Rick Pitino isn’t getting another major conference job.

With right coach, UGA could be a sleeping giant.
Atlanta area has a lot of competition with ACC teams.

I always though Crean was an odd fit.
I would cut bait now.

Baseball, Georgia has a Mountain of talent but also a MLB team with all their scouts. We lose a bunch to the draft or don't even try to sign them. The backwoods programs in the league that don't have MLB, can protect their talent better. UGA competes with the ATL braves for attendance and the Braves win, alot of other programs are the only show around. Personally wish we had an LSU or msu following.

It is stupid fricking posts like this that make me a self-loathing UGA fan.

I can name a shite load of MLB talent from Georgia who played college ball at places other than UGA. It had nothing to do with "awe frick, the Braves are gonna draft that pitcher from Waycross who was gonna take muh 'Dawgs to Omaha."

19. If you go on to become a huge coaching success, to whom will you tribute the credit?

First and foremost I’d like to thank God.

Prior to Durham UGA had never been in the NCAA tourney or the NIT. He took us to 5 NCAAs and 4 NITs and the Final 4 of each. We had never won the conference regular season or tourney, we did both under him. He took one of the worst basketball programs in NCAA history and made them respectable. During much of his early time the tourney was considerably smaller than today in terms of participants.

I don't dispute that he brought Georgia to respectability. My point is that the poster said UGA was goodunder Durham. A sub-500 conference and only marginally better overall record isn't 'good' except in comparison to previous Georgia standards.

It went from 48 to 64 teams in 1985. Two-thirds of his career was spent with the tournament pretty much as we know it now. Of those first few teams, only 2 could have been remotely in a tourney discussion and they would have been very much bubble teams.

Harrick's four seasons were slightly better. Two tourney trips that resulted in 1 win, 67-53 (55.8%) overall, 33-31 in the SEC.

His best team was probably '03 but our AD
"voluntarily" took em out of SEC tourney because of the "scandal"

Team was getting hot at the end of the season and won 6 outta their last 7 games including a victory over #3 UF.
