SMU money going to kill OU recruiting in Dallas.

Few things.
1. Mack Brown turned into a gaping vagina when he played stoops. he used to tell the fans and the team BEFORE the game that if they lost to oklahoma it wasn't the end of the season. Stoops scared him to death.
2. Horrible head coach hires after Mack left.
it's really that simple. Not to mention the future HOF nfl QBs in our back yard that Mack didn't even recruit. Brees, Mahomes, and others. Some say andrew luck but I'm not sure he would have come here if Mack had gone after him.
I really hated that man. We need to rename that stadium to Vince Young stadium imo.

That was because Sumlin didn't know how to manage a QB controversy.

Learn fool...
That video just backed up everything he said about not properly managing a QB controversy.

Spoken like someone that has zero clue as to what they’re talking about.
Texas is quite a sad story. All the money in the world but repeatedly gets big boyed by the “shitty” school up north.

This thread is incredible. Bama fan makes a underhanded jab at Texas via complimenting OU, and the Texas fans are still posting about A&M

Unlikely... NIL + SEC is not a good mix for them....
They are a poverty program and their exposure to Texas is going to be greatly reduced not getting 2-3 games in Texas every year.
They won't fall to Nebraska level depths but they will struggle to stay at Texas A&M levels.
This seems like more wishful thinking than anything. I've been hearing these types of predictions from UTx fans for decades. It is always one reason or another that would lead to OU's downfall. Hell, I even believed it in the mid/late '90s.
Our recent recruiting tells a very different story. With Riley we brought in tons of offensive talent but mediocre defensive talent. Recruiting has become far more balanced.
We will see but I suspect that OU could be a prime destination for Big 12 players (especially those in the old Big 8 footprint) to move up to SEC.

For the past several years, we have had quality QB play here. We benefitted from being in the big 12 being one of only 2 big fish in the conference. The other schools would be up and down, but we were usually competing for a conference title. With the way the offenses were in this stretch, our defense was more finesse than physical. That was why we would struggle with now fellow SEC conference opponents in the big games.

Last I checked the money is still there. Not like Texas or A&M, but enough to make your money irrelevant.
Coaching isn’t there? You’re aware Venables has coached in 8 national championship games, right?

Venables is a great defensive coach when he knows what play the offense is going to run. Bad program builder though.

This is like asking “Why is Alabama so good?”
Oklahoma doesn’t have 200 rings like Alabama, but those 2 programs are more alike than anyone else in the SEC.
Oklahoma is a better program than Texas.
No logical Texas fan would argue otherwise.
QB play is a big piece of that.. when Texas has a better QB, we have won some games..
We are 8-12 vs OU in the last 20 games.
Those wins
VY (1-1)
Colt
Colt
Colt (3-1)
Sam (1-4)
Ewers
and we got lucky in 2 other games.. I think little McCoy got one..
Better QB wins a lot more at all levels.
OU is usually higher ranked than Texas.
i’m confused.. what’s the question again?
Oh.. we have all time scoreboard despite all that .. 119 games

Interesting because objectively he’s done a pretty great job. Kind of sounds like you’re projecting what you wish to be the case but isn’t reality.

In the 50s, post-dust bowl, they decided football would be the state’s identity and they would pour a bunch of oil money into it.
And OU is only an hour away from Texas and a couple of hours away from DFW. There are more OU alumni in DFW than the state of OK.

They played in the big 12. The bottom have of the SEC would be competitive in the big 12.
OU had to play a down Texas every year to be a top 10 program.
TCU and Baylor had 1? 22 good years in the last 20 something. And those were the next best programs behind OU

Only have to play one or two decent teams a year

Why haven’t the Yankees won a World Series in 15 years? Why haven’t the cowboys won in 30?
Money matters up until a certain point. Having the GDP of Senegal to deploy for 17 year football players is great, but really doesn’t make a big difference because you’re not going to outbid someone for a random 4 star by 3-4x. Most kids will still base where they go on getting paid and which program they believe is going to get them into the league. I’m not worried at all about OU doing well with recruits in both of those areas.

That is simply not true. TCU and Baylor are not the third best programs in the Big 12. KSU and OSU are generally better. (Heck, OSU sucks this year and they beat Arkansas.) That is not to mention that for the majority of this century we had A&M, Nebraska, Missouri, and Colorado in our conference. In the late '90s and early '00s those were some damn good Nebraska teams. (You should know as they pounded Manning's arse pretty good not to mention their destruction of Florida.)
And why are we 2-1 this century against Tennessee?
That is not to mention we are 3-1 against Alabama this century.
2002 - Alabama was SEC west champs if not ineligible due to probation.
2013 - Beat Alabama by 14. The same Alabama was a kick six away from playing for the national title.
What did you do against those 'Bama teams?
2002 - Lost 34-14
2013 - Lost 45-10
You are like Arkansas fans filling your heads with how great you would be if not in the SEC yet nothing in actual games played fits this narrative.

Norman is close to Dallas, and OU actually has a lot of money, the oil money alone is ridiculous. Only A&M, UGA, and Texas eclipse the potential money OU can throw around in the sec. OU could easily out spend Alabama dollar vs dollar when comparing alumni.
