we're projected to have a better offense than last year's. so that might help offset the D's projected weaknesses.

That being said they will still be a good team but will not go undefeated and IMO not get in to the title game this season.

considering that it's illogical to BET on ONE team to get to the end game, your conclusions are logical. so it's a SAFE bet you're making when you said that (you're not going out on a limb and you deserve no real credit points if you were right about that). and not many Bama fans disagree with most of what you're saying btw.

i'll bet if you had $1,000,000 and you HAD to wager Alabama vs any ONE other team in the NCAA you would at least consider Bama if not pick them every time.

It's ridiculous to watch these bammers doing mental gymnastics to try and convince themselves on how defense will be the same or better. They won't be bad, true, but it is unrealistic to think they will be as good as last year. When you lose starters and leaders a unit will NOT produce the same results. They will have a good offense, but late in the games Saban will NOT be able to rely solely on his D to win games and hold leads. Their O is going to have to win some. That being said they will still be a good team but will not go undefeated and IMO not get in to the title game this season.

Fair assessment. I don't think we will ever have another D as good as last year's team was. But that doesn't mean that we can't bring in new guys and have a great D next year. Every defense in the SEC has question marks, Alabama is no different. But I think Alabama is equipped with the talent and coaching staff to overcome our question marks as good as anyone else in the SEC. By the end of the season, I expect our D to be in the top 15 overall.

his assessment about our team is fair. his assessment about our fans is ridiculous. he won't even be able to name ONE poster here that thinks our defense will be "BETTER or the same as last year."

but i'm glad you proved MY point about Bama fans being rational about what's going on. we have no real reason to be delusional. shite is good here :)

I'll say this once more........ you can count however many of our guys as "returning starters" that you want, but there's a lot more experience coming back up front than most people realize.

Hightower is a monster who started his freshman year. Yes, he got injured and only played a little last year, but come on, it's not like he isn't experienced.

Upshaw played in all 14 games last year and started one game.

Nico Johnson started 3 games last year and played in 12.

Josh Chapman has started 2 games and played in 29. He's the other guy that was stuffing your runners when Cody wasn't in there.

Mark Barron started all 14 games last year and has played in 28 games.

Dareus started 3 games and has played in 22.

Luther Davis has no starts but has played in 34 games.

So, say what you want, but we're not trotting a bunch of inexperienced freshmen out there, contrary to what many want to believe.

Not to flame but I just read that Bama lost 13 3-4 yr players on defense, really surprised.

lulz. some of you guys are so obviously desperate for alabama's defense to suffer that you will blindly believe anything.

tiger chaser and company, you are in for a horribly rude surprise if you think we'll be in bad shape while Saban is here. unless of course the NCAA banhammers our asses.

Was he one of the 11 starters last year?

Players we lost that contributed last year...

Anders
Reamer
Cody
Deaderick
Washington
Woodall
Kareem Jackson
Javy
McClain
Marquis Johnson
Robby Green (suspended)

Those are all the players I can remember that contributed. The other 2-3 didn't contribute other than garbage time.

Now I think we get as good or better play from these player's replacements:

Anders
Reamer
Deaderick
Washington
Chapman
Marquis Johnson (maybe)
Woodall (maybe)

Now replacing Javy, Kareem, Rolando, and Robby Green will be key issues we will need to work out, but there isn't another CFB coach I would trust more than NS to take care of it.

Saban had 4 returning starters on defense in his second season from a team that finished 7-6. They were much better the following year. The guys who will be starting in place of the guys that left are mostly 4 and 5 star recruits who have more talent. There are many guys who have a lot of game experience as well. Secondary is the only area where the team is thin on numbers and experience. Saban's DL and LB are loaded!!!!

Mark Barron
Marcell Dareus
Donta Hightower
Josh Chapman
Jerrell Harris
Nico Johnson
Courtney UpShaw
Kerry Murphy
Dre Kirkpatrick
BJ Scott
Chris Jordan
Luther Davis

Coached by Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Sal Sunseri, Bo Davis etc.

I think we'll field a good defense.
