Looking at it closely, take away an on sides kick and a QB's stupidity on the last play of huge game and this team is 5-7.

Take away missed field goals in the "Thegreatestfootballgameeverplayedinthehistoryoffootball" and LSU has a loss going into the tail end of the season. The fact remains that Chizik and Auburn found a way to win as many or more games than most people thought possible this year.

You are mistaking rational Auburn fans realizing this was going to be a rough year for people making excuses or accepting 7 wins as ok. Talk to us in 2 years, if the number of wins is still low, then we will know Chizik isn't the answer.

I have been extremely impressed with AU this year. I really didn't expect them to make a bowl game with everyone that they lost last year.

I feel this way too. Although AU got smoked a few times I expected a much worse season. I think the real test of a coach is how much he gets out of a down year. Chizik's team overachieved.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like his personality/approach to the game and wouldn't want him at LSU but he's done a damn good job at AU since he's been there.

You pegged it man. Nice work. Your grasp of the game is off the hook. I wish there was a way to put a sticky on all your comments if they are as insightful as this one.

Les miles went 8-4 with a freshman qb and almost all Rantards wanted him on the hot seat.

He was good enough to recruit Cam and hire Gus. If they had failed Chiz would have gotten the blame, so he has to get the credit as well.

Finally, in 2011 to an extent, but for sure in 2012, youth and depth issues cause by the end of Tubs tenure will no longer be a valid reason for lack of success. He's going to have to win.

Youth, depth, and inexperience was a valid excuse for the 2011 season, along with a brutal schedule. Those are no longer excuses for 2012.

If AU puts another team on the field that appears to lack fundamental football skills in tackling, pursuit, proper angles, etc. then what will the excuses be?

There should be none.

But if his past history at Auburn is any guide, I'd say chances are he'll do far better than many here expect.
Past history shows an SEC Record of 7-9 without Cam. What are the expectations of the AU fanbase? Is anything over .500 considered doing "far better" than expected. Chizik needs to go 5-3 next year to get his SEC Cam-less record to .500

Agree with your first statement, as far as excuses go, I'm not sure any would be valid (excluding some serious injuries to multiple key players).

Wouldn't be any from my end. AFAIC, they should have shown *some* improvement this year from Game One to Game Twelve... and didn't.

They DAMNED sure better show that improvement *next* year.

Keep Chizit...we have had 2 blowouts in the 3 years and the Tubby era nail biters are a thing of the past cause he will never "obtain" another Cam!

I hope Gene Chizik stays at Auburn a long time. When your opponents want your head coach to stay put, he's not very good.

Of course, every single one of LSU's opponents wanted Miles to stay at LSU as long as possible so what the hell do I know.

I read your first line and almost clicked on the respond button... until I read your second line and you said exactly what I was thinking.

I know one thing...Chizik wouldn't have kicked 4 freakin long field goals like an idiot during the "Game of the Century". He may not be the best coach - but unlike Les and Nick - he usually don't have his head up his @$% during games. He's by far a better game day coach than either of those guys. If they don't have the best talent they don't stand a chance. Thats why everyone cried about AU's recruiting. When we level the talent pool - you all lose.

If that were the case - there wouldn't be a bunch of Updykes and Corndogs talking trash in a seven page thread about how bad he sux. Jealous of Chiz - 2 yrs to win Title -

He is a frickin genius and will be known as one of the greats in years to come

So, where would you put the expectations for a genius in year 4 (2012)? These will be 90+% his own recruits that he has coached up. Contend for the SEC? The NC? We all want to hear what the Auburn nation is expecting from their great coach for 2012.
