How good a coach is Dan Mullen (compared to other SEC HCs)?

After MSU's surprisingly good season last year I was honestly a little surprised Mullen wasn't poached by a bigger, more historically successful program.

How good a coach is Mullen, and if he continues to experience success how long will he remain in Starkville?

He seems to be a pretty good coach...Reminds me of Houston Nutt a little...Nutt just coached in an easier time frame in the West

Good.

Until he retires or gets fired.

What he's done at Mississippi State is pretty damn incredible so I'd say he's a pretty good coach

Before last year, he had beaten 2 top 20 teams in 6 yrs, or something like that

Eta: scratch that. He hasn't. In 6 yrs

He's a good coach, but he likes Starkville and if a huge program went after him I think they would want to see a little bit more consistency before potentially overpaying for him. We'll see what happens after this season.

He has done a great job at MSU, he's been able to retain his players, knows how to develope them, and we saw how that translated to their production last season. He is a solid coach.

He's already left for the Michigan job twice, I read it on the internet.

I tend to agree with you.

If MSU becomes a serious contender for the West year-in-year-out I wonder how it will impact the other programs in the division. Does someone else take their place as the perennial last place finisher or does the division become a revolving door from year-to-year?

So Mullen to aTm?

There is only one coach remotely close to the hot seat in the west and that would be Les Miles that would be an upgrade from State.

Don't see him a fit anywhere else in the country

I think he's an average coach who had the perfect storm in the SEC West benefit him

He is an average coach who had one good season. I would put him in the middle third of all SEC coaches.

I don't see him sustaining that level of success. I think he'll be out of the SEC in 3-4 years, and not because a better school lured him away.

He was thrown into the middle of the toughest division of football at its height. Granted he came close several times and blew it at the end, I think last year helped him a ton to get over that hump.

He's better than average, but I agree he is third tier of SEC coaches. There are just a bunch of good coaches in our conferences.

Only coaches I would want other than him:
Saban
Pinkel
Richt
Miles
Spurrier
Malzahn

Seems like a pretty good coach and a good guy. I have zero problem with him.... His act towards Ole Miss if anything is entertaining.
