4 team playoff?
2 East pods and 2 West pods with 1 E & W winner?
Top 2 overall records?

Two (rotating) pods play each other each year round robin to determine the two representatives in the championship

Could have seeded semifinals played on campus. Would be epic.

Pair up pods yearly (switching every year). Best record in each "duo" is an SECCG contestant.
Y1: AB & CD
Y2: AC & BD
Y3: AD & BC
9 game season
3 games - pod members
3 games - rival in each of the other pods
3 games - rest of teams in partnered pod
ex. for A1:
Y1 - A2, A3, A4, B1 (rival in pod B), B2, B3, B4, C1 (rival in pod C), D1 (rival in pod D)
Y2 - A2, A3, A4, B1 (rival in pod B), C1 (rival in Pod C), C2, C3, C4, D1 (rival in pod D)
Y3 - A2,A3, A4, B1 (rival in pod B), C1 (rival in pod C), D1 (rival in pod D), D2, D3, D4

Why a set rival from each pod instead of continuing to rotate that out of paired pod team?

That sounds pretty good to me

In order to keep must play games (which each team will have 6), you have 1 rival in the other pods (since not everybody can be in the same pod).
&, as you've seen, you DO play the whole other pod each year (I just listed it as "rival" + Team 2, Team 3, Team 4).
Y1 - A is partnered with B
Y2 - A is partnered with C
Y3 - A is partnered with D

Seed Pod champions for Conference semifinals by combination of CFP ranking and head to head.

Sec west 1
Sec west 2
Sec East 1
Sec East 2
Whoever has the better conference record In east and west goes to the championship game. If there’s a tie, then apply tie breakers;

& it's easy to follow. Each year, 6 of the 9 teams never change in order to keep those "must play games".
Also, like I said, no tiebreakers/extra games needed to determine SECCG teams. SECCG will NOT have a repeat matchup until (possibly) every 3rd year.
The only catch (which some have - but haven't complained before) is you'll not be able to play everybody H/A while @ school for 4 years. You WILL face everybody once in 3 years.
ex.: John Smith of Team A1 will play
A2 - 4X
A3 - 4X
A4 - 4X
B1 - 4X
B2 - 2X*
B3 - 2X*
B4 - 2X*
C1 - 4X
C2 - 1X
C3 - 1X
C4 - 1X
D1 - 4X
D2 - 1X
D3 - 1X
D4 - 1X
*(or pod C or pod D 2X (depending on when he started school))

There’s gonna be a playoff baw. It’s comin. The mouse wishes it so we follow.

No playoff
Pod East
FL, UGA, SC, KY
Pod South
AUB, Bama, UT, Vandy
Pod Central
State, OM, LSU, Arky or A&M
Pod West
TX, OK, Mizzou, A&M or Arky
Best overall record wins the Conference. Tie decided by head to head, or if they don’t play a tiebreaker scenario would be put in place.
With the playoffs going to 12 or possibly 16 teams there is no need to play an extra game.
You play your three teams and then rotate the other twelve teams six at a time. 9 game conference schedule. One P5 OOC plus one additional game for HC. 11 game schedule.

That would work great. I was thinking of rotating one per pod for the three non-rival games, but your format would keep the championship game basically as is, but with shifting divisions every year. Would be pretty cool.

& with 9 games, that leaves 3 open slots for whomever.

4 team playoff?
The only way it can be done. That is why I think we will not be using a pod system. It will penalize our best teams, with an extra game ever year, for our top teams.......and the two who play for the SECC will have one less week rest/preparation for the big tourney.
It will be much easier to have two divisions. With the playoffs expanding, we will have a chance to get four or five teams in the tourney every year. None of them will be stressed with having to play an extra game.

I like this overall format. I just still don’t see why you set a constant out of pod rival and play B1, C1, & D1 4x instead of just constantly rotating the B, C, & D opponents.
Posted on 7/29/21 at 10:48 pm to TheTigershark
Once the playoff moves to 12 teams, I would suggest cancelling that sec championship game. Both teams playing in that game would be in for sure. What good does it do to take that risk? Of course, we may be getting 6 teams in a year, so it wouldn't matter.

Constant rival - must play games against teams not in your pod.
Rotation - allows you to play each school in 3 years (6 for full H/A). Also shuffles SECCG opponents every year.
