It's a shitty position for a coach to have to be in knowing he has to sit in front of a bunch of idiot media folks that were already planning to ask stupid questions.

It's a shitty position media timing-wise for sure. But for now, the answers are easy: wait for more information.
Smith blew under the legal limit on the breathalyzer, so unless new evidence comes out proving he was on other drugs, the DWI charge probably doesn't stick.
The car search where the single joint was found seems to have been incident to arrest for DWI, and if the DWI charge doesn't stick, the evidence from the search (i.e. the joint and gun) likely gets thrown out, and he is in the clear. The gun was only even an issue because of the other offenses anyway.
So as I said above, unless additional evidence comes out to give legitimacy to the DWI charge, there's a good chance this all just goes away anyway.

2. The people "in the suites who pad his pockets" will reduce his monthly stipend (they call it NIL) by 1%
3. Jimbo benches him for the opening series only.
