I agree; we'll have a better read on this after the bowls. If we win 75% I'd say we are still tops.

It's hard to judge off of one year. Big 10 is the best conference with Big 12 being the worst. 2-4 is the real debate.

Quality of head coaching is at its lowest in 12 years.

2004 SEC Head Football Coaches
Alabama - Mike Shula
Auburn - Tommy Tuberville
Arkansas - Houston Nutt
Florida - Ron Zook (final year)
Georgia - Mark Richt
Kentucky - Rich Brooks
LSU - Nick Saban
Ole Miss - David Cutcliffe (final year)
Mississippi State - Sylvester Croom
South Carolina - Lou Holtz (final year)
Tennessee - Phil Fulmer
Vanderbilt - Bobby Johnson

actually the "traditional powers" are all exactly were they have historically been.

Alabama 72% Win all time

Tenn 68%
LSU 65%
Georgia 65%
Florida 63%
Auburn 63%

I don't agree with this. Some players have checked out by the time bowl season comes around. Some teams (like USF) lose their coach, players getting ready for the pros, etc.

LSU hardly a dumpster 4 loses to ranked teams. All could have gone either way in last second--except for one that was tied in 4th quarter.

That said SEC has NO QB's and only a couple of really good coaches. That sums it up!

We will be back. Gotta tear it down sometimes to make progress. UGA has been a cheap facade since DJ Shockley left, sans late 2007 and late 2012. We are gonna build it with a better base this time. If Kirby can't coach em, at least he can recruit. When the cupboard is stocked with killers again if he hasn't figured out the coaching part we will hire someone who can. Richts recruiting looked good on paper, but was weak where it mattered.

Coaching. Instead of going after veteran coaches that may have won 65 percent of their games the ADs started going for the one hit wonder from bumfrick U. A lot of those guys weren't cut out for the SEC or didn't have enough experience.

Also schools are running off coaches when they don't win a national title. I STILL don't get Georgia shitcanning Mark Richt. Hell, he was as successful as Dooley and he's a got dam legend there. It's a different world today.

LSU runs off the highest winning percentage coach in school history.

Running off Miles had little downside to it.
Last 3 years he has been .500 in SEC west. At best this year he would have had 3 loses and probably 4-5 if you go by the past few years.

Not much difference to program as a whole to go 9-3, 8-4 or 7-5, unless you can win SEC West going 9-3. You have to make a change when you start slipping in your division and it was obvious LSU was.

The QB thing is overblown. The SEC West starting qb's were Chad Kelly, Trevor Knight, Austin Allen, Danny Etling, Nick Fitzgerald. These are not bad qb's by any stretch.

It's become a meme that the SEC has shitty qb's thanks to Colin Cowherd and other conference homers who want something they can get over on the SEC. It's not true on the whole.

Disagree, Kelly has game but not very focused and certainly does not protect the ball well.

Knight is only one I would take and he was injured some.

Out of 12 teams not a lot of QB potential. Bama's is just a FR and may turn out to be good.

SEC has been declining for awhile. With the firing of Richt and Miles, Spurrier's bad ending, Franklin moving on, the SEC minus Bama will be off the radar for some time. Teams should learn quickly the Saban tree is not all it's cracked up to be.

I think it comes down to how much money is invested into winning a championship. 2 years ago we laughed at the Big 10 but they have closed that gap by investing into better coaching and its paid off for them. There is not a single team in the SEC that Bama would consider hiring as their coach. If they had to hire they would go out of the conference.

ADs were under pressure to win now in an environment where the best coach in a generation is winning big at Bama. Shortsighted decisions cost the conference some experienced, winning coaches (Les and Richt). Other good coaches retired or left - Pinkel and Spurrier. The conference has lost a lot of leadership over the past few years.

Some of the schools can't compete at a high level year end and year out on a talent basis - no offense - but MSU is not the same without Dak. Ole Miss D was bad this year. Arkansas and ATM defenses are bad as welll.

There are lots of flawed teams and one great one.
