You make a good point on recruiting. I hadn’t thought of it that way. The very first thing that happens to your team, a week after signing, is to be called a quitter, pussy and scared by your peers in high school.

Damn good point. I had only thought about it from the perspective of those already on the team who know the circumstances. Damn. Well, I’m completely changing my opinion on that subject. Upvote.

LSU May have lost tonight but at least they didn’t make excuses and just flat quit. The SEC has a reputation to uphold and LSU did the reputation of the SEC way better in a blowout loss than A&M did quitting and just not showing up to play.

What you and so many here don't realize is, in 10-15 years no one other than LSU fans are going to remember the circumstances.

Its just going to look like an ugly bowl loss to a Big12 opponent. All this kumbaya stuff tRant is doing is laughable

Then stop talking about what someone did 100 years ago. Your traditions do not mean anything if you do not live them. Honor them. You embarrassed the whole conference with the weak way you quit on your bowl game.

Anyone with any sense at all knows better than this. College football is not the same as it was 100 years ago. What happened 100 years ago is a really cool story and a true story.

If you actually thought a coach in today's football would throw a jersey on a college basketball player because they just might need them is beyond stupid. It made sense then but hasn't made sense for decades.

It’s not about 10-15 years from now. It’s about next season. The SEC needs a strong reputation to get as many teams in the playoff as possible. The reputation for the strongest conference is built on winning as many OOC games as possible which starts in bowl season and spills over into the next season. The winner of the SEC needs to have the conference looked at as the best in the country so there is no doubt the champ will be jumped by another league if they have 1 loss and other leagues have undefeated champs. It also could help a second team get into the playoff over another leagues champs if they are looked at as a weaker conference. The SEC has to look at bowl season as the first step to next season every year. By winning as many OOC games as we can as a league we help each other next year should the SEC need a strong reputation to get into the playoffs.

I could not care less about your recruiting class. Have never even posted about it. The reality is, if you have ever managed any large organization, it is an absolute nightmare to manage a group of high performing individuals. Unless you are an iron willed disciplinarian in the mold of Nick Saban, having a huge class of five stars is not going to do you any good. It is not just the talent, it is the personalities. I like Jimbo Fisher and wanted him as our coach before we hired Orgeron, but I do not think he has the aptitude to manage that many talented players at the same time. Probably only five head coaches in college football could do it. Would rather have a decent class of five stars in key spots and fill the rest out with serviceable four and three stars. I think y’all have a headache around the corner. Only time will tell.

Reputation? Getting into the playoffs? Are you serious? The SEC is the only conference that's put two programs into the same national title game... twice. The SEC has more respect than any other conference and its not even close.

As so many said already, lots of these bowl games come off as "worthless." I love them, but let's not get bent out of shape over the Texas bowl and a what is now a football team with a losing record.

Talk about reputation

It is a great class. Shows what NIL can do. But it can also lead to a lot of problems. If Jimbo can pull it off then kudos to him. It is not a knock on his ability to coach. Few have that innate ability to get that many high performers to work well together. That is why Nick Saban is such a unique man. It is not just his recruiting, but his ability to mold them into a team. Just incredible to watch.

You are only as good as your last win. A lot of people use bowl season as kind of a gauge as to which conference is best starting out the next year. That starts the pecking order. From there the big OOC games every year either moves you up or down. If you have the SEC and the Big 10 for example pretty close to each other at the end of the year then who is considered best may be the difference in getting in 2 SEC teams in the playoff over 2 Big 10 teams. Which may be your team one day. Bowl season starts out how people rank the strongest to the weakest conference every year and every SEC team is responsible for doing the best it can to keep the SEC on top of that list. We have to win as many big OOC games every year to keep the SEC on top.
