Why do people assume that Va.Tech and NCState want to join the SEC? If you look at the history of the ACC, Virgina had to make some threats to the ACC if Va.Tech wasn't accepted when the ACC was expanding. There is no way in hell that Tech would leave the ACC since UVA had to bend over to make sure Tech was admitted to the league. As far as NCState goes, there is no way in hell that a tobacco road team would leave its in state schools to join another conference. Tobacco Road will always stay united. Florida State had their chance to join, but chicken crap Bowden wouldn't have any part of the SEC. FSU's famous line is, "We don't want to play Alabama and Auburn in the same year."

While I agree with what you're saying, it applies to the past. College football is changing and I don't think any of these schools would ignore a shot at the SEC if it were to come calling unless the in-state brother(s) blocked the move.

Money talks. Despite all the dumb shite that happened in the Big 12 I guarantee you neither A&M or Mizzou would have been looking to move to the SEC if we didn't anticipate making more money from it.
If more money is involved and they can get around the political hurdles (obviously a big if) they would at least have to consider it.

I really like that pod setup. If you did 1 and dones instead of home and homes with out of pod teams I think you could face every team in the league in 4 years?
With any pod setup, if you dumped the permanent rival and went to a nine-game schedule, you could play every team home-and-home over 4 years.
You play everyone in your pod every year. In years one and two you play two teams from each pod alternating home-and-away. In years three and four you go to the other two teams in the other pods alternating home-and-away.

NC State will never leave the ACC. None of the North Carolina schools would ever leave the ACC. They are the very heart of the ACC.
If Clemson and FSU leave, the party is over. The rest will be there for the picking.
I say get UNC and UVA instead, though.

I say let Ga.Tech back in along with Tulane. Both schools bring the academics along with LSU getting an instate rival once again. If people would look at the history of the Tulane/LSU rivalry, then adding Tulane would make sense. BTW, in case you young Bama fans don't know it, the Georgia Tech/Bama was the biggest rivalry in the South. That rivalry surpassed the LSU/Ole Miss rivalry and also the Bama/Barn game. But back in those days, the Bama/Barn game was a once in a forty year game. In fact, Bama's fight song mentions the yellow jackets.

LSU wouldn't let Tulane in just like Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina won't let schools in within the same state.

UNC and UVA would be the biggest prizes.

they are under the same system UNC could just throw the hammer down.
People who keep saying money talks and VT is a lock don't understand these two schools are in totally different situations than A&M was in

This would be an awesome set-up, kind of like the NFL in a way. It would give every team maximum geographic exposure to the entire SEC region.

IF UVA either had a Big Ten invite in their back pocket (they are likely high on Delaney's wish list) or was content to stay in a weakened ACC because they have zero desire to be a big-time football power, I could see Va Tech getting the political pull to leave for the SEC.
UNC is the bigger issue. They have an NC State problem, and I can't see anyone taking the Wolfpack unless they get UNC too.

Possibly. But as long as UNC had a landing spot (B1G) NC State could end up in the SEC (or the Big 12).
I think IF the ACC were to collapse (and I'm not so sure it will notwithstanding all the rumors) UVA and UNC end up in the B1G. Then VT and NC State come to the SEC.

is there a race to get to 16 teams?
Some thoughts.
UF isnt going to budge on FSU, and USC(E) wont budge on clemson.
Big 12 could take VT, so they may not be around long if the sec hesitates. NC State, otoh, isnt on the Big 12's radar. Why would the SEC rush to take NC state when patience may yield UNC down the road?
I doubt the Big 12 moves past 12 initially. Big 12 will not want to be responsible for unraveling the ACC TV contract. They will take 2 and wait.

NC State had a very very very small following? Being a bigger football school than UNC means nothing. Sorry try again.
Posted on 5/25/12 at 8:32 am to TeLeFaWx
NC State has at worst the same following as your average BCS conference team. To say it is small is pretty stupid. Unless it is just a hyperbole for average.
Posted on 5/25/12 at 8:38 am to F1V3LSU
Where do you rank in the ACC? Average? Average in the ACC does not make you average in the BCS. Do you have a large alumni base? Any national following? You haven't won a Conference title in over 30 years.
