Not going to see this Bama fan hate on Blazer basketball. Bartow was great.

UAB has a good basketball history but Alabama’s is better. UAB’s history is better than a handful of SEC teams though.

Living near B'ham I got my hands on a ton of free tickets to Blazer games. Started in JCC and then when they got their stadium on campus it got a little harder. Gene could coach and had immediate success with transfers. He kicked butt in the big dance. Never the same after he left.

Mike Anderson had them good for a few years. They beat UK to go the the Sweet Sixteen??? Right?

I was talking more about my personal interest in the program.

I’d say it’s better than any team that hasn’t made a Sweet Sixteen this century.

Gene Bartow was a piece of shite who tried to ruin Alabama athletics and also insulted Paul Bryant. So frick UAB.

Historically, Bama is better. But mainly because they had a longer history. It could be argued that UAB accomplished nearly as much in a shorter window. Bartow deserves all the credit for that.

Lesson #1...never ask for someone's opinion if you don't want to hear it.

UAB has three Sweet 16 appearances, starting in 1981.
Alabama has had seven in the same length of time.
What Alabama has accomplished has been in a league that has had 7 teams...Kentucky, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Georgia...go to the Final Four in that time period. Have any of UAB's conference rivals even been to a Final Four? None, as far as I can recall.
So, no, UAB's accomplishments aren't at all on the same level. Putting a Sun Belt or Conference USA championship on the same level as an SEC championship is like saying making the FCS playoffs is on par with the CFP playoffs. Or saying that winning the Maine state championship is on par with winning the Florida or California state championship.

This was obviously meant to be a troll thread, but UAB actually has a pretty decent basketball program history.
Based on my rankings of programs in the modern era (based entirely upon NCAA Tournament performance since 1979), UAB ranks as the #70 program of all-time.
That ranking puts them ahead of 3 SEC programs (#71 Vandy, #89 S. Carolina, and #112 Ole Miss).... but only slightly behind a few others (#64 Texas A&M, #67 Miss St., and #68 Georgia).
Alabama comes in at #47 FWIW
