Not replying to you - just replying.

I enjoyed watching H.W. run. I think, as a kid, it was the first time I sat down with my old man and watched a bowl game start to finish. GA vs. PSU. We had just got cable - the picture was great !!!

Also remember him going to Dallas - Landry starting him and Dorsette in the same backfield. They beat the Giants on Monday night - and never ran that damn scheme the rest of the year. That's when I decided I wouldn't cry any tears if Landry got fired.

Bo, Walker, Smith - it all seems like splitting hairs to me. They were all great. And great to listen to - really cool peeps.

There was nothing “weak “ about that team.

Arguably, Buck Belue was weak but he could pitch the ball to Herschel good as frick.

Buck Belue was 1 for 14 passing and most of those passes were way off. That is the only time, at any level, that I've seen a QB choke has way to a national championship.

I was a kid when I saw color TV for the first time. I was mesmerized.

Yes. Herschel was a LOT of fun to watch. I still pull up highlights on YouTube from time to time. And by saying that it is not meant to marginalize any other RB. I enjoyed watching Bo Jackson. I followed a lot of LSU RBs over the years and Arkansas has had some great RB.

Absolutely. I know you were not responding to me, but when I read your post, I couldn't help responding to it. It was spot on and great!

Poor ol' Dalton Hilliard. Unfortunately he was a freshman when Herschel was a Jr and was in Bo's. Great runner with tons of big plays and stats, but came along at the same time of two of the greatest. I'd see him around campus and the guy had thighs the size of OL guys.

1st Team All SEC in '80 and '81 and led the league in passing efficiency in'81

Have ni idea why so many Dawg fans use that game as a snap shot of his career

you have to admit in that 1981 Sugar Bowl he was just pathetic. He did nothing to contribute to that game that the backup punter couldn't have done.

Okay?

So that defines his entire career?

You know this board’s gone to hell when one of 59 Tiger’s history posts makes for a bunch of unnecessary dick humping.

Thanks for the post. A good friend of mine is a Texas guy and does a lot of business with Bill Bates. Said he still laughs about hitting Herschel’s leg and bouncing off. Strangely enough, my buddy is also really good friends with a guy who was a safety for A&M in 1980 and missed/got a glancing blow on Herschel on a 76 yard TD the next week.

I’m a big fan of Herschel, but Derrick Henry broke Herschel’s single-season rushing record in 2015 and with fewer carries. Henry is also already a better pro running back than Herschel was.
